Naw,
It just goes to show that drafting ain't a perfect science.

Obviously it looks bad now but you can’t be too harsh except for not taking Connor over Senyshyn when that was a bad pick to begin with

Yes.

And the award for worst single-place draft mistake is the Minnesota Wild moving back from #79 to #80 in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick and taking Louis Belpedio, while Tampa Bay moved up one whole space from #80 to #79 in order to take Brayden Point.

Nj Phil Florida dal all somewhat missed too, Boston did have three in a row, but the next three might have been down there list a ways also. Drafting such a crapshoot, just glad they left the jets connor.

No because Zboril was projected higher than Chabot so that pick is fine, the DeBrusk pick turned out good, the only reach was Senyshyn where they should've taken Connor (rookie GM mistake imo). They weren't going to pick Barzal bc they were set down the middle with Bergy & Krech at the time so center wasn't a high priority need.

Even then they went way off the board on all 3 picks and every commentator was like, what the hell are they doing.

Oh really!
Did not know that.
But there are 5 other teams that "pick" wrong, at least.

They scouted the Sea Dogs all year and came to the conclusion that Zboril was better than Chabot, it's totally fair to be harsh lmao

That wasn’t an uncommon assessment at the time

Edmonton had 11 picks in 1990 draft and not one of them played an NHL game.

Later they drafted Yakupov 1st overall. To be fair…that draft was thin on talent.

Boston picks ok (other than Seny) but could have been better, while those were the next 3 taken there were better players taken after that in that draft. 8 players from that draft made it to the NHL. Hard to call it a travesty. Just could have been better. But every draft could.

What this highlights is how lackluster Sweeney and the scouting department is when it comes to evaluating prospective talent.

Since this draft, they've only hit on a handful of guys; the most recent NHLer they've drafted to play an NHL game was from the 2017 draft, and the handful of guys who did make it are either not going to go far or got traded. Aside of Lysell none of their prospects are anything to write home about. Granted, the Bruins haven't had many high end picks due to either trading them or just performance, but not being able to identify and develop any mid-draft players is what's been holding them back from getting the most out of the remaining Bergeron/Marchand years.

The Draft they flopped with. The hockey gods punished them so hard but the consolation prize is Brandon Carlo and DeBrusk would at least be solid player. Honestly the more I look at that draft the more I laugh cause of how badly their drafting in the 1st round turned out.

If it makes you feel any better. I as a Penguins fan absolutely hates JR for trading a 1st for Perron. He didn’t add up to the kind of value he was traded for, for the rest of his time in Pittsburgh. That 1st round pick was the draft pick that turned in to Barzal. And it didn’t have to be Barzal taken with that 16th overall pick. It could’ve also been a Chabot or Connor. But if you’re wondering I laugh at our drafting that year as well cause of how horrible it was. Our best player that year drafted was Dominik Simon. Sprong could be argued as the best pick but he was never developed in Pittsburgh. He was just rushed.

Didn't even realize that, thanks for that tidbit of information.

We're really still doing this? The only pick that was off the board was Senyshyn.
