Muzzin costs a 1st++ to dump, 5 teams that can take his cap hit on without sending cap back before you even consider he can say no to all of those teams, and he has a second year on top

Just confirming that Ryan McDonagh got traded with 4 years left at 6.75M without Tampa having to give up any assets and that I didn't dream it

Gavrikov is the best defensive defenseman we have. Peeke is probably the best RHD we have.

Honestly I'd be happy for Dubas to overpay for him, whatever it takes with picks & prospects (not including Knies or Niemela)

Holl would be a future considerations type move for MIN so if you add a third on your side and future considerations, sure.

He is still a lot better then Muzzin, and has been injured less. This was also before every team with Cap flexibility used all of that cap.

I see you completely skipped over my point about 5 teams being able to afford Muzzin without sending cap back at this point

And I don’t see Muzzin waiving to play in ARI, BUF or CHI

That leaves ANA and DET

But keep dreaming 😂

I skipped over it cause you completely made it up, there's this website called capfriendly where you can actually see how much capspace teams have - check it out!

Yes I have checked it out, and it appears you may be struggling with the math! That’s okay I can help you.

All the teams with enough cap space to fit in Jake Muzzin without sending cap back (or dumping it elsewhere) are:

Anaheim
Arizona
Buffalo
Chicago
Dallas
Detroit
New York Islanders
Ottawa
Winnipeg

Now let’s to the very simple eliminating of teams that still have RFAs or other roster filling to sign that would push them out of the range that can take Muzzin on, that leaves:

Anaheim
Arizona
Buffalo
Chicago
Detroit

Now let’s do the simple elimination of Teams Muzzin (to be fair isn’t impossible) wouldn’t waive for

That leaves:
Anaheim
Detroit

But yeah I made that up tears of joy

If you need any other help with math, cap space, or team building this great website called CapFriendly is completely free!

It's painful how many people don't go further than just looking at what the cap number beside each team is. Solid breakdown.

Math is hard and combining math with common hockey knowledge is super duper hard

It’s easier to claim someone made something up or doesn’t know anything

So, why can't Ottawa acquire him? $8M in cap space with only Formenton and Brannstrom to sign, the former maybe not being signed and the ladder likely for very cheap.

Not saying the Jets need him but they could afford to acquire him as well mathematically, so we're already up to 7 teams.

Also, impossible to say what Muzzin thinks but I could see him waiving for a team like Buffalo, still close to home and they actually don't look like a horrible roster.

Not to mention, as I used McDonagh's trade as a reference, a team that has $3-5M in cap space could acquire Muzzin and the Leafs would still shed cap by taking a $1-3M contract back.

Formenton and Brannstrom easily take up 3M by themselves and then they can’t afford him

The jets cannot afford him they wouldn’t have a full roster so no there too

So again down to a best case 5, none of which are contending so none of which would go out of their way to pay for him

Even if he would waive for Buffalo they have no spot for him with Power coming up

But you fail to mention Nashville is a playoff contending team. And for all the possible Muzzin suitors none of them are contenders.

The leafs can’t afford to take cap back without dumping someone else 😂

I don't think your Ottawa contract assessment is correct at all when considering external factors.

Jets would be sending one of their current defensemen to the AHL (Samberg or Stanley), Muzzin would then technically only be adding 4.7M to the cap. They still then have just under $4M to add a couple of bottom 6 forwards.

Nashville can contend for playoffs all they want but it's not like McDonagh thinks hes going to win a cup on that team.

Finally, Leafs can definitely afford to take cap back as you can see from literally the post you're commenting on. 1.2M in cap space with a $3M addition of a 3C that they don't need, Kampf can play that role or they can get someone for $2M and take on a player making about $2.2M.

Well, we've got a glut of forwards so that's not a need, we have a ton of LD so that's not a need, we have an extremely deep prospect pool so that's not a need, and we have virtually no cap space available. So... nope, not realistically possible.
