I mean it wasn’t a dangerous looking play even. I don’t think anyone agreed with Subban at the time or that they would now. It’s a weird argument to have.

Barzal wouldn’t tense up and try to dodge. If Hughes had just taken the hit normally he would’ve been fine.

So it’s Hughes fault? That’s rich.

It was a dirty hit that resulted in an injury. Subban got Jack’s back. Walhstrom deserved it. And I’m sure Wahlstrom will see a few extra hits next time they play.

What you are suggesting Hughes was supposed to do is not taught at any level and counter-instinctual.

1. You are taught to absorb a hit to the body. This was a hit to his knee.

2. You are taught to take hit into boards. He has already turned away from boards.

3. The puck had already cleared the play and Hughes was heading toward the net.

4. Wahlstrom led with his knee. He could have played body. But he didn’t.

I understand peoples gripes because Hughes and Subban are the most hated players in division. But the bottom line is incontrovertible. It was a dirty knee-on-knee hit. And if Wahlstrom hasn’t gotten hurt by Subban, he would have faced a fine.
