RANKING EVERY TEAMS 3 BEST PROSPECTS

Description
Ok so I know it seems kind of pointless but I think it could be a very interesting way of determining the high end depth. If you feel your teams 3 best prospect is somebody who I did not mention please let me know. LW is the best prospect, C is the 2nd best prospect, RW is the third best prospect. Goalies will have a created player to represent them. To qualify as a prospect a player must be calder eligible.

Now if each prospect is rated equally based on their spot it is possible to determine which pools are more even than others among their top 3 and we can determine the strength of their top 3 as well compared to other pools. It is a flawed system because the best prospect at every position counts for 1 point and there is also the fact that the 3rd or 4th best prospect in some pools are better then the best in other pools. It can be used to determine how balanced the pool is however because if the locations of the rankings get continuously better, they have a more balanced pool. NJ goes 4-2-1 which means they have a more balanced pool than say montreal who goes 3-16-13 which means they are more top heavy having slafkovsky as their number 1.

Again if you have any disagreements with the rankings let me know. I am trying to not have any bias so I am lower on my team and higher on teams I do not prefer. Results may be a little skewed because of that but I personally think these are good rankings and the best I can put out without bias.

I don’t consider pinto a prospect. He would have made the NHL jump if it weren’t for injury and imo would’ve been a good player as is. If pinto were in Greigs place, he is in the 14-16 range. I don’t believe pinto would be calder eligible and most of the sources I used to get an outline for this don’t consider pinto a prospect.

That makes sense. He is Calder eligible tho. He hasn’t played enough games

Yea it is an in between situation. In the end I went with what the majority of reference sources said and that was considering pinto not a prospect. He is a very exciting player however and I think he will make an immediate impact with the sens next year as a 3C that is able to step up come injury or if somebody is underperforming.

Peterka is our 3rd best prospect, not Savoie. I would put him right under Holtz. Yurov is very bold to have that high. His ceiling absolutely warrants it, but he hasn't put up numbers in a pro league like a lot of the guys below him have.

Agreed. It’s nice to have depth. Pinto can step into the top 6 if needed and Joseph too. And Greig can be called up to the top 9 if injuries occur

I originally had peterka but savoie was one of my favorite prospects from that draft. It was difficult to decide between peterka and savoie there but imo they would have had the same ranking at 3rd in the 3rd column. Tbh it was a coin flip for those two but I have savoie the edge because he is younger and I think he has higher upside. Peterka has a higher floor but imo a lower ceiling and when they are near even for me I pick the one with the higher ceiling. I have also been very high on Russian prospects too so yurov, miroschnichenko, and Trikozov I rated very highly. My original mock draft for this past year had 4 Russians in it including grudinin in the late 20s. Trikozov was my 15 and it was difficult putting him below other guys as I’m really high on him and the other Russians but I didn’t want to portray bias in my rankings.

Well being a ppg in your first AHL season as a 19-20 year old and putting up 12 points in 10 Calder Cup playoff games might beg to differ with that. His high motor, shooting and playmaking abilities, and his ability to play either wing to me all add to his value. I like Savoie don't get me wrong, but there is no doubt in my mind that Peterka is a better prospect as of now. Ceiling wise Savoie does have a higher projection, but Peterka is more likely to hit on his potential seeing as he has already teared up a pro league

It was hard to rank canes because they’re my team and I tried not to be biased. If I were ranking with bias, trikozov would be under cossa and morrow would be under lekkerimaki. Imo that’s where they should be but that’s with bias so I knocked them down a few pegs to stay unbiased.

COL: swap Meyers for Annunen. Meyers is a starter for next season and not a prospect. I'd think that moves COL up quite a bit by being more balanced.

I think they’re all good prospects but not nearly as good as some habs fans make them out to be. I saw somebody today describe Farrell, guhle, and Roy “as untouchable as slafkovsky”. Imo mesar has the highest ceiling out of those prospects you mentioned minus mallioux but I don’t even credit mallioux for being an NHL prospect based on what he did. Whoever did the Canada WJC incident I also think should be black listed from the league. Anyways back to Roy kidney and farrell. Mesar I believe will be the best NHLer, especially if he has chemistry with slafkovsky. I’m also surprised Hutson isn’t being mentioned in that conversation because imo he is overrated as I believe he is a late first early second caliber player but because he fell so far, he is being described as a “future Norris winner”. If the habs fall out of the top 3 this coming year, I would be all for them drafting dvorsky and I would love an all Slovakian line for them with slaf-dvorsky-mesar. End of the day I think his play against men is what propels him over other habs prospects.

Wdym he’s a starter next year? A solid 3rd of these players will be making the NHL jump next season. Colorado IMO would only be able to move up one more spot max if annunen were to be the guy and i would have a hard time not moving him down below Beecher. It may be more balanced with a FWD, D, and G but few teams in these rankings have a FWD, D, and G. Detroit is the only one with a FWD D and G as their top 3. Tough to even have annunen move them up past tampa tbh.

Nice to see Pittsburgh ranked at 24 and not 32.

I would say you nailed our top 3 prospects and probably their order. I would just have to say that Pickering should be a touch higher but otherwise good job.

You helped me get higher on blomqvist tbh. The original top 100 I made had the pens prospects minus blomqvist but I watched more of him since and I am higher on him now than I was a week or two ago. Pickering is kinda hard to rank as he is so big and lanky. If he were to put on 40 pounds to bulk up to 220 he has a very strong argument to be one of the top prospects in the league. I would put him on par with a Clarke if he bulked up but as of now his weight is a big thing for me but a lot of his skills are there. Imo he was one of the largest wild cards from this past draft. Depending on his off-season, he could be a top 20 guy for me but as of now he is lower. And if Pittsburghs entire prospect pool were to be ranked I would have them around 26-28. The top 3 imo isn’t a great way to rank the pool but a good way to rank top end talent. For example carolina has one of the deepest prospect pools in the league and imo is a 9-11 pool in the league. Because their top end talent is lacking they fall to 20 here but if they were ranking top 10 it would be very different instead of top 3. That may be a future ranking, top 5 then top 10 which imo gives a good sense on ranking. Even then though I think some players in the 20s for the deep pools could crack the top 10 for some of the high end pools tbh. May try the 5 soon.

Well being a ppg in your first AHL season as a 19-20 ..
@Cardiac Great job, I am sure this required a lot of research and time.
As to Peterka or Savoie, I have seen different pundits flip flop them, so either one would be fine, but Peterka certainly had a great first year in the AHL.
He scored more pts than any other 19/20 yo, and most males do not reach their physical maturity for several years later, so he will have a great future.
If Savoie is better, Buffalo will have an elite top 6 in two or three years.
I presume your 2-4-3 was Power-Quinn-Peterka/Savoie if that is the case, Power is considered the #1 NHL Prospect, should one of the numbers have been a one?
I presume most pundits over look Levi's record setting NCAA season because he is shorter than most NHL GK, but I would certainly think he could have made your GK list.
Final observation, since it is debatable who is Buffalo's 3rd prospect, I would suspect that would indicate their depth would be the best?

Unfortunately, how a prospect will perform is not an exact science, as Buffalo had the top ranked pool 10 years ago and none of them became top NHL players.

Meyers was a very high profile college UFA and wouldn't have signed with a team to play in the minors. The Avs did him a solid by burning a year of RFA for a handful of regular season games last year. Remember, as a late signed UFA, he was ineligible for the playoffs; I think he would have gotten games otherwise. In his few games he looked polished. Meyers will absolutely be on the NHL team this year. Behrens was a NATIONAL CHAMPION playing top minutes as a freshman and should gain points for this. Annunen has been a slower burn, and you could argue he's not top tier, but he's gotten better as his first NA pro season went along. Olausson looked electric last preseason scoring goals, and also just completed his first NA pro season.

I think the Avs have focused their recent prospects on playing a responsible, two way game in recent years, which take away from point totals, but prepare the player properly for the NHL. It's been well documented they did this with Byram in his D+1 season, which explains the drop in points. Newhook was playing defense to the max when he first got games against Vegas; it was quite odd given his explosive skillset. I think people are underestimating COL prospects.

There's no illusions of COL having a top tier group of prospects, but Olausson, Behrens, and Annunen are closer to NHL ready than many other teams' groups and that also counts for something. I'd expect each to get NHL games this season. People see the Avs trading Timmins, Barron, and Helleson and think the remains are garbage. I'd still consider the group bottom third in the NHL, but certainly not last.

Nice work! Refreshing from all of the cap negligent, homer trade posts. Although in 5 yrs, things may look totally upside down. Some floundering, along with other surprise kids. I love looking back at old drafts, total crapshoot lol.
For NYR: Othmann, Cuylle & Sykora. ru: Garand, Berard, Korczak, Robertson.
Best advice: "Make & Save every team 23&24..." with "their future GooD prospects" @888,888k & RFA signings. Abide by NMC, Cap & common sense. Practice makes perfect lol

It was me and just cause some random guy on CF thinks they aren't as good or don't have as high of a ceiling as Slafkovsky doesn't make it accurate. BTW Guhle-Slavkovsky-Farrell are our top 3 prospects with Roy-Hutson-Mesar fighting for 4th to 6th. Guhle's ceiling is a #1 D man in the mold of Weber with a floor of a #3 D man. Slafkovsky has a high ceiling of a potential superstar like Jagr but also a floor of a 3rd line winger. Farrell is very very underrated and has an elite winger (Marner type) ceiling with top 6 floor, Mesar has a 1st line ceiling but also middle 6 floor, Roy has a 1st line ceiling but middle 6 floor floor.

I do see where you are coming from with the NHL readiness argument but imo that just results in a prospect being more projectable. Minnesota is my third ranked pool yet wallstedt and yurov are both at least a year away from the NHL. The rankings aren’t exactly on how soon they make an NHL impact but how much of an impact can be projected 5 years from now. Some of these prospects in my opinion will be out of the NHL 5 years from now so when it comes to the rankings of colorado, I put their prospects with NHL projectability over those who I don’t think could be in the league 5 years from now. With colorado having just won a championship I would expect their pool to be bottom tier and again, these are just three prospects and does not reflect the entire pool. Oulasson is my 86th ranked NHL affiliated prospect post draft but that doesn’t mean I think he is going to be a bad player, more of low ceiling issue. I do see the argument that they would be coming soon being something that could raise them, but imo they projectability 5 years from now is lower even though they could be better than other pools as others have more of a boom or bust aspect to them being less projectable.
