Description
Jets' top centers are about to walk in two years.

To fill this hole, they sign in Kadri long-term. Probably not going to be worth it, but Cheveldayoff attempts to salvage whatever this core has left.

I have placed Scheifele to LTIR to portray the team after he leaves. I am assuming Scheifele is also getting traded in due course, most likely for futures for cap reasons.

1.
WPG
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. Mysak, Jan
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (FLA)
Détails additionnels:
Conditional pick - WPG receives the lower of the first rounders MTL owns in 2023 NHL Entry Draft. If both picks end up being Top10 picks, MTL can retain the pick and send an uprotected 2024 1st to WPG instead.
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc
Détails additionnels:
This is a conundrum of a trade in terms of fanbases - WPG fans are not going to accept not getting a top prospect in return for Dubois, MTL fans are not going to accept giving up a top prospect for Dubois due to being the most likely team for him to sign with once he's UFA.

I think serviceable mid-6 center, two good prospects and a first is probably the most WPG can get for a guy that has publicly come out with the fact that he's not staying long term.
2.
FLA
  1. Dillon, Brenden
  2. Gustafsson, David
  3. Wheeler, Blake (4 125 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
FLA is in deep trouble. They have a massive need for a D-man but have no funds to acquire one. In this trade FLA acquires themselves a D-man they need in Dillon, as well as a top-6 veteran guy and Maurice's trusty soldier Wheeler, which would be almost impossible for WPG to move otherwise. Jets receive a 2C for themselves in future, as well as a young forward in Heponiemi and a really potential prospect in Benning. To make the cap work they also take in Hornqvist, who gets immediately moved forward as it's unlikely he's accepting a trade to Canadian team.
3.
PHI
  1. Hörnqvist, Patric
Détails additionnels:
Second part of the FLA trade. Given that Hörnqvist most likely wouldn't waive for a Canadian team he gets immediately moved to PHI in a cap dump swap. WPG receives former second round pick prospect for taking $1,7M worth of excess cap.

As a Habs fan I think we would decline. Not because of value is off but I think because of rebuild. Habs should be stockpiling futures and not making trades like this. Especially first rounders

The Jets wouldn't do the Montreal trade as 3 of the 4 pieces hold little to no value to the Jets.

Unlikely that Florida does that trade.

Helle is a UFA in 2 years as well. The rebuild is coming and this team has 1 season to prove something or next year they have no choice but to tear down the core

Do they not view Perfetti as a center? Lucius?

Feel like the blueline could use another piece too. Maybe a two-way, Manitoba-born RHD, if there are any floating around.

Dubois is developmentally ahead of the 1st round pick and still good for a 7 year contract when it's time.
The problem I have is that we should be giving Dvorak and Dach opportunity to grow into their roles with the team.
Do we really need to pay for Dubois when we have Slafkovsky, Anderson, Dach, and Dvorak? Going to take at least a full season under MSL to figure that out. Maybe next summer.

Perfetti could be a C, but given he's a bit smaller than average player maybe he's better off at wing.

Lucius is still quite unproven.

Honestly, the deal looks like it's fair
But unless those 2 prospects are off, or at least 1
Why should the Habs do it?

Not sure what that would do for Philly…. Swapping bad contracts and giving up a high prospect to clear very little cap on a year we don’t need to clear cap….

Some reports suggested they wanted to get rid of JVR but it was too costly. This is one way to do it.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, they needed to clear cap to sign Johnny hockey but apparently we never even planned to do that. They might actually extend JVR for a much more reasonable price if they can’t trade him at the deadline

We will just take PLD from you in 2 years. No need to trade away assets for him now

Samu is an intriguing prospect in Philly pipeline. They’ll ruin him like they do with everyone, but I’d be interested if I were other teams that knew how to develop speedy wingers into NHLers.

You hit the nail on the head, one fanbase is likely going to be mad if a trade happens. It's been rumoured that Dach was brought in to be part of a Dubois deal but who knows at this point, I'd imagine that he's being more touted than Dvorak so the rest of the return would be less.
