Mostly because he is a rookie who hasnt played a single game in the NHL yet, not saying he would be there all yr, but possibly to start out and get his feet wet. Could go both ways, he moves up in the line up as the season progresses or maybe he needs a bit of time in the A. Never know... Also, with Gourde, Beniers, Wennberg, & Wright, Seattle has to be considering moving one of them out by the beginning of next season as none of them should really be wasted on the 4th line long term.
