The Kings essentially need a left defenseman for Sean Walker's cap hit. So they could just have Sean Walker play the left side, or they could trade Sean Walker for a LHD with a cap-neutral contract. Muzzin at 50% retention is pretty darn close to Walker's cap hit (Kings would have to eat an extra $180k, but that's doable). Hence the suggestion of flipping Walker for Muzzin with 50% retention.
I don't think Toronto can afford to pay Jake Muzzin's cap hit for Sean Walker, so if there was any trade to be done, it would likely need to involve a 3rd team to eat space. LA isn't going to be willing to give up any more assets to facilitate the swap, so Toronto would have to incentivize a team like Arizona to eat 50% of Muzzin's contract. They could either give up a sweetener, or just let that 3rd party team keep Sean Walker and only get future considerations in return for themselves.
