Lol! this is a mess.
Colombus is not trading Laine, let alone with retention right after they just signed him.
Holloway is not going to play first line minutes over Hyman or Kane.
At least swap Kane and Yamo around on the 2nd line since Yamo has NEVER played LW.
Speaking of Yamo, he is not signing that contract when Pujli just got $3mill.
Chara?? Seriously?? And Broberg starting the yr in the A... not happening.

Well that's a very very very very very wild overpay. Anyone who says Columbus says no is absolutely clueless to the package. Horribly crippling trade for Edmonton.
I do really like idea of signing Chara if he's open to Edmonton. He's always been in the east so I have my doubts but to counter the addition tough travel schedule could offer him time off allowing broberg more playing time. Adding his presence and experience in the dressing room could pay off.

No way in hell Columbus takes that offer. 2 cap dumps, JP who has little value on the market right now, 2 meh prospects that have decent ceilings, and 3 magic beans draft picks, and you want Laine with retention? Jarmo would be sacked the minute he makes this trade. Not only that, but this trade would put CBJ even further over the cap. Not enough value and CBJ doesn’t have the cap to make this trade either.

Pls tell me how having a 6’9 possible future Hall of Famer eat 10 mins a night and kill penalties with that big reach and freak of nature strength be a liability.

I don’t think you even looked at this because Broberg is in that trade…

You step on the Ice with 45 year old chara. Eat one of his cross checks in front of the net and you’d be crippled…paralyzed. Guy will always be an asset.. especially on the PK..

Holloway you’re going to see him at his ceiling with the best player in the game and that allows you to shuffle guys down the line up.

Kane and Yamo comment now you’re just being picky and ignorant.

If you made all the above moves and then approached yamo to take yet another bridge deal. With the agreement in writing that he’d get a fair long term deal next summer. Giving the team their best shot at the cup this year. No way he wouldn’t sign the paper. If he doesn’t then whatever, he’s disposable thru trade.

CBJ May not have the most interest in dealing Laine but for their D sucks. Barrie had a bad year last year. BUT over the last 2 seasons he’s 7TH in points of all D men. Broberg there is a ceiling there. PUJ could explode with the new scenery… Xavier is a good prospect... 2 x 1sts… and why not make that third a conditional pick. Jarmo may turn his head.

His age alone is a liability. I mean, how often do you see 40+ year old players have success in the NHL? His size is amazing yes, but that size does nothing for you if you are going to get walked like a dog defensively. The league as it stands is based on speed and transition. The game is growing younger and faster, whereas Chara is growing older and slower. Prime Chara, the **** he was, would love to have him on my team. Old washup Chara, no thanks. And I’m sorry, but with a dcore like that, I feel sorry for Campbell.

I might be a bit biased since I have lived with an actually structured dcore, but Chara is too old to be effective at the NHL level anymore. Teams will specifically target his side of the ice with speed and they will walk him like a dog. Reach is useless if the opposing player just speeds by.

JP couldn’t explode when he flanked either of McDavid or Draisaitl, what makes you think he will explode with the Jackets? The only reason Barrie has that many points is because he was the PP quarterback for the team that features both McDavid and Draisaitl. Outside of that he is a complete pylon and useless in the dzone. CBJ already has 1 overpaid RHD in Gubranson, why would they want another one in Barrie? The Jackets d outside of Werenski and Gavrikov does suck, but they don’t need to add to the suckage with Barrie.

Yes the game is built on speed and transition. I agree. Noone in the league has had success in their 40’s.. but then again nobody has had his size and capabilities.

Last season NYI had 231 GF and 237 GA… Big Z was a +8 last year. Analytics don’t lie. Was he really getting embarrassed all season last year and walked. Why was he out for more goals for then he was against? On a simply put boring hockey team with not a lot of real offence. You can be as slow as a fat kid in the bike lane but if you stay between the dots and positionally sound, with elite awareness I think you’ll be okay..

Lastly biased because you lived with a structured D core? Who are you? Do they even have structure in division 10 rec league GTF outta here…

Keith was pushing 40 with alot of miles on him and had great success playing twice the minutes Chara would expect ro play. Even less minutes given oilers wouldn't do that Columbus trade so broberg would still be in the picture.

Essentially getting another guy that can tuck 40 goals in a season. Can’t ever have too many guys like that. Sure an over payment but worth it in the end

Even humoring CBJ making a Laine trade, there isn’t a trade package EDM could put together for Laine that doesn’t include Bouchard, Holloway, and a 1st. Likely more, particularly if anything is retained.

CBJ get an immediate RD with top-pair makings, a cheap T6 F, and a 1st for fun.

EDM gets a guy who is going to win the next seven Rocket Richard trophies playing on McDavid’s wing, and immediately turn his contract into an absolute bargain for four years.

Evander Kane can win the rocket next to McDavid... Leon can win it playing with or without so Laine isn't needed enough to justify the cost to acquire or tie up that much extra cap upfront.

I’m not being sarcastic - I do agree!

My point is that Laine is going to cost a lot, EDM likely won’t part with the assets it would take to get him (cause this package definitely won’t do it), and I’m not sure you guys really need Laine anyway.
