Why ditch Severson just to sign Klingberg?
Severson is better, younger, cheaper…

Originally, he wanted 62.5-66m from Dallas which would have been ~9m+ in FA, he probably went down to the 8m though. Now he's down to 6sm but he's going to have to get x7. If he's signing a one year deal it would be at a high AAV, but I don't think he's going to want to risk it.

I think there's still the possibility that Bernier does return but yeah unlikely that ARZ would expect that they could flip him. They would need a sufficient sweetner up front and wouldnt give up an asset.

You realize that Klingberg taking a 1 year deal is far from being in his best interests right? This is his last chance to cash in on a long-term deal and earn some job security

I have heard listening to some podcasts that Devils would be a good fit that's why I made this. Maybe the return for Severson was low but we can say he gets a 1st here. Either way with the way their D is looking if they add another forward here at TD and sell off Klingberg they could be looking real solid next season.

I know that but no team is interested in going that route. So he could probably end up doing this or he'll have to take a 1-2m paycut which is definitely not in is interests.

He'll have to take that 1-2M pay cut anyway simply because he'll be a year older

What's the point for either side? Like mentioned above, this is probably Klingberg's last chance to cash out long term. And the Devils are already have their top OFD in Hamilton. No real point to trade Severson and bring in a more expensive replacement especially with how stacked NJ is on RD. I would just stick with Hamilton/Severson/Marino or if Severson is traded, Hamilton/Marino/Nemec.
