I could see the Avs including a 3rd team for retention, but they won't be retaining on anything for the next 5-6 years. There's just no room.

With respect to the Avs retaining, it's just for one year, and it fits under the cap with room to spare.

On Florida, this helps give them cap room and a bit of ammo to go after a different need, and they also replace Bennett with Compher. It's a downgrade, but they are paying him less than half of what Bennett makes. That said, I would agree that the Panthers likely decline. That's the logic though.
