No risk to this. Easy deadline trade as well. Win for Seattle.

This guy was a point and a half per game in the NCAA, what in the world happened.
Fine contract.

Exactly! He was expected to be so much more. He did put up a career high in Seattle this season, but just not what he was projected to be.

If they had offered him a QO, he would’ve had arbitration rights. Coming off a 30 point season, he probably would’ve cost closer to 2 million.

I was wondering if he could be a depth replacement for the leafs if they made a cap clearing forward move.

It's a put up or shut up year for him

Thanks for that explanation. It didn’t make sense to me either. I guess they weighed the risk of losing him as a UFA versus the possibility of being stuck with paying him more than they wanted to, and they decided they’d rather risk losing him.

But isn’t there a rule that says that the team can refuse the arbitration award and let him go as a UFA at that time? I think they can only play that card once per year, but after Geekie signed, Donato would have been their only arbitration case.

i think theres a limit like its only on deals over $4M or something, not if it's $2M

Good signing, still has good potential. Wouldn't be the first player to have their first 20+G season after turning 25.

p.s. Pulling for Bobby Ryan
