I am honestly surprised Colorado hasn’t filled the 2C role via trade. If this was a deadline deal and the Canucks were out of the playoff race I could see something like this.

Stastny as a stopgap for Newhook would probably be the best option

Even trading Girard to make room for Kadri creates problems the following year when resigning MacKinnon, Byram, and Newhook. Byram could easily play himself into the Girard contract so that saws off. It would probably mean parting ways with Toews the following year or more.
I wouldn't sign Kadri and let either compher or Newhook grab it and use rantanen/landeskog as a safety net 2nd c

I agree, he is familiar with the team and city and would probably like a shot at the cup. Plus you could keep Compher and the depth pieces who would be useful in season to keep helm and Cogliano fresh

Might be a situation where Newhook has to learn to be the second line pivot on the fly. It’s kind of ironic that they dealt Jost and now he would have a legit shot to be the #2 pivot in Colorado. A role he may have thrived in if he got the chance.

Only problem with that is that Newhook is much better than Jost

I’m not disagreeing but I also think Jost’s struggles had a lot to do with his usage on a stacked Avs team. I could c him figuring it out if he is the right situation.

Also worth mentioning I’m a huge fan of how Colorado and Florida have acquired talent in recent years. I could c Jost being the next Bennet type player. I also think it’s inevitable Gurianov joins the avalanche lol
