Kane then re-signs for 4x 8 million. Trading Lundell is a very risky, but it's better than trading Spencer Knight.

The lack of 1st round picks might be a turn off for CHI's front office. Seems like they are really confident in their own drafting and would prefer to do so. BUT, Lundell and Denisenko are no joke. I would probably do something like this, but it might cost a little more because of the cap dump and the 50% retention.

Hubs and Weegar were about to walk, Lundell is a rookie with upwards of 12 years of control if they play the contracts right

Well if this happens, you can easily kiss Knight goodbye, because at that point, he will be offer sheeted and the Cats would be incapable of matching. Even if the Cats actually won the cup, and with that dcore good luck, is it really worth selling your entire future for?

Great point.

They’d be able to match easily. They have 6 million coming off buyouts next season and with 3 million raise to kane that leave enough money to sign knight to a bridge. But like you said that d core is bad so that should be addressed over getting kane at the cost of lundell who will probably be as good as him as kane gets older and lundell matures and progresses.

I’d take the Kane deal in a heartbeat, Lundell is awesome, but Davidson has a strange love for picks over prospects, so I’d suppose any deal involving Kane would involve something like a 1st and 2nd.

Considering he would be given an OS between 4.2 and 6.1 mil, Florida won’t be able to match AND address their defensive problems. And that is also before talking about all the other players that would need to be resigned as well. And with a coach who is defensively minded to a fault, this is just a recipe for disaster. The Cats will likely have to choose between a competent dcore or resigning Knight if this situation plays out. Knight is a very likely candidate to receive an offer sheet, all a team has to do is overpay Knight for 1 year and drop his pay with an extension (unless he proves that he is worth the money).

Even if Florida doesn’t go after Kane, they only have about 16mil in cap space to address the elephant in the room that is their dcore, resign Knight, and resign/sign other FA they need/want. That’s also not including trying to save space for a Lundell extension. Florida is clearly following Toronto’s cap model, and having 3 players signed long term taking up 29.5mil of the available 82.5mil, Florida won’t be making it out of the first round anytime soon.

Tahts why I hope they dont sign anymore 8 plus million contracts. Kane isn’t necessary here. We have enough competent wingers to do just fine. If they can shed hornqvist soon. Maybe a klingberg one year contract for cheap will work out but I doubt it. May be riding with it for one year abs next season will be when all the work is done.
