Going to take a better offer than that for Girard. Top pairing capable dmen fetch more than a 3C and a 2nd, 24yr old puck moving dmen locked up long term take some real quality.

So the Habs are getting a top pairing defenseman while the Avs are getting the equivalent of an overpaid 3C and a 2nd round pick?

Habs fans cant seem to understand that Quebec born players may not want to come to the Habs. And why is Harris on right side when we could have Mailloux

In a world where Bjorkstrand gets traded for a third and fourth, Dvorak bringing back Girard is pretty wishful thinking.

If the Habs want to shed his salary, they'll just have to cut their losses and take less than what they paid for him (perhaps a lot less).

We both know Makar and Toews is the top pair, stop acting dumb...

Byram is great and deserves a spot on the top 4 and on the pp, right next to Manson... Unless you want him to stall on the 3rd pairing.

That would leave Girard and Johnson on the bottom pair. Im sure you dont want a 2nd pairing guy getting paid 5mil aav on your 3rd pairing, that waisted money and value.

it's not ideal but if dvorak is the alternative then yes, much rather have girard.

I agree that trade for Girard is awful from the avs standpoint, but people in these comments been acting as if he is as valuablue as Makar...

Well that's a jump. No one said he was anywhere near as valuable as Makar. All we're saying is that he's more valuable than an overpaid 3C and a 2nd.

Just like I said, I agree that this is a terrible Mock trade, but Avs should defenetly trade Girard imo

Its just waisted cap space and terrible asset management to have Girard on the 3rd pairing playing 10 min a night...

My issues with this ACGM

1. Resigning Drouin
2. Resigning Harris when we have better LD prospects
3. Signing Eakin
4. If you are giving Dach that much at least lock him in for 5 years.=
5. Girard is a 2nd pairing guy not 1st
6. Huberdeau may get that on the open market but he may also sign for 8.5 in Montreal because he has said before his dream is to play in Montreal (whether that is true or not it's worth trying to sign him for slightly less money)
7. Caufield should be at 6.5-7 max
8. Sign Dubios to an OS after the 2023 draft for 6.25 mil on a 1 year deal, if it is matched we sign him as a FA in 2024, if not great we get a great player at a great price.

This is a methaphore that I used. We call this an hyperbole...

And just like I have said many times, this is a terrible trade for the Avs.

5 - girard is #1 on this team
6 - huberdeau's pretty unlikely to leave 8m on the table.
7 - if caufield has a stong season i think you'd be looking at $7.5m at least unless you're suggesting the habs bridge him.

But with the emergence of Byram, there is no place for him on the top4. Therefore, the most logical option is to trade him imo.

The habs simply dont have what the Avs want for this trade. They dont have enough value either, unless sending Slaf, Suzuki, Caufield or a unprotected first, which will obviously not happen

You’re hung up on pairings on a depth chart. Girard and Byram will be 3rd and 4th in TOI guaranteed. COL is arguably the most creative team defensively in the league and they will mix and match pairings all game long. COL also is playing long term big picture, in 2 seasons Toews is going to be a FA they can’t keep and EJ if he is playing still in 2 years is a $2M guy and the top 4 is Makar, Byram, Girard Manson.

Ok so a couple of points.

In a year Sakic will have to resign MacK and Makar. They won’t come in cheap. They won the cup without Girard for the last couple of rounds so he’s definitely expendable. Dvorak played for an awful team last year and when you look at his numbers. The 2nd round in a deep deep draft (2023) will look like a middle 1st round in 2021. Add to that if the habs are in the bottom of the standings. There’s good value for him at 4.5Mil. Eakin signing is just about depth and veteran presence. Huber d’eau won’t come in cheap and god knows if Caufield has a 40 goal season he won’t either. Caufield was at that rate when St-Louis came in as a head coach. Not signing Dubois, it’s either trading for him OR wait until he’s a UFA

Let's play that game in this case, what would it take to get Girard. Keep in mind that you guys need to resign Byram, MacK, Francouz and Toews to long term deals and hefty raises over the next couple of years.

Mailloux will need at least another couple of years before he could play in The NHL. He barely played last year.

Depends on the situation the teams are. Look at what Carolina got for Burns and Pacioretty. If other teams are in a cap crunch, you have the bigger hand in trade talks.

So you’re wrong. Makar is signed long term. If you meant Byram, he’s an RFA with no arbitration rights so that’s not an issue. Girard got hurt in the 2nd round. To win the Cup they played 13 games without him. He played the 3rd most minutes amongst the dmen, I think people are severely underestimating the impact of losing him would be. I mean you’re talking about who Andreas England or Jack Johnson playing the whole season in a regular role and both of them being the 3rd pairing of EJ gets hurt. He’s 24, signed to a long term sweet heart deal that is only going to get better. Imo COL would have to be blown away by a trade offer to even consider moving him.

What those guys get in contracts doesn’t affect Girard’s trade value. Francouz is a back up goalie 3x3. Byram RFA a lot depends on the cap. Toews, honestly he’ll be 30 when his deal expires I don’t think it’s a stretch somebody offers him a Pietrangelo kind of contract and that prices him out of COL. But having $5m AAV Girard at 26 as your #3 d behind 25yr at old Makar and 23yr old Byram.
