For one year of Hanafin? Nah man, not unless the most friendly extension comes with that. 2023 is an awesome free agency market, I'm leaning towards getting our LD for free if this is the cost for Hanafin.

Yes, I'd assume he'd come with an extension.

If Turcotte is still on the trade block next summer, it means his trade value has likely declined significantly.

I'm not as high on Durzi as everyone else seems to be.

I'm higher on Spence as well, but I don't think Hanafin will come at a mega discount if we sign him a year before his contract ends.

Not expecting a mega discount. I'd expect he'd get in the $6-7M range on an extension.

I just don't know how we get the cap to work long-term if we keep giving these bigger contracts out. Anderson, Durzi, BJornfot will all have pay raises (likely) next year. We'll also need to replace Quick and give Moore a pay bump. Honestly, our best path for addressing left defense might come from within.

I think Quick will be back for a few seasons yet. I don't expect Moore to return following his current deal.

Ah, I think I get you. Kaliyev to the top-6, Quick never really losing the job to Cal?

More like Quick not ready to hang them up just yet and wants a few more shots at a playoff run before he retires. I don't think he's going to be starting 50+ games after his current deal ends by any means.

Any number of players could jump into the top six. Kaliyev, Kupari, ****emo, Chromiak, Vilardi, etc. I think some of them will be busts, but if absolutely none of the Kings top prospects can turn into top six players, then something is seriously wrong.

I mean plenty of other goaltenders are still playing at well past his age, I don't think I'd be surprised. But man, paying Cal $5M to play 40 games and never start in a series will be a bit rough on the poor guy.

Moore going is all dependent on how well he performs in a full season with Danault. The Coaching staff talked a lot about how certain players were engines for the team like Danault, Moore, and Lizotte. I think if Moore still can put up decent numbers and takes a home town discount, I'm ok reupping him 2 years. Then let all our young guys rack in points as bottom-6ers.

The problem is that if Moore exceeds all expectations and proves he is a true top six talent, then he's going to want to get paid, and someone is going to pay him. The Kings won't be able to give him his payday with the money they're already paying to Kempe and Fiala. If he doesn't prove he's a true top six talent, and is more of a middle-six kind of guy, then do the Kings really want to keep him when they have potentially better players already in the system to replace him? I suppose there's a sweet spot of "good enough but not too good" that will let him stick around on a Toffoli-like contract.

Iafallo thrived with Danault, so maybe. If we can get Moore at $3-4Mx2 I'm for him staying, but who knows if goal scoring is still an issue I'm ok with either promoting or paying for another winger.

Better hope he doesn't score on pace with his 2nd half of 2021-22 then. If you double his production from his last 41 games, that would give him 24g and 36a for 60 points in a full 82-game season. Don't think $4M will lock him down when he can test the free agent market.

I think we'll know by the trade deadline, if we ship him and Walker, that should be enough to get an upgrade at LD or at wing.

I don't think rental Moore and post-injury Walker have as much value as you think.

If Moore is on track for 25, and Walker gets back to normal, a rental winger with some physicality isn't out of the realm of possibility.

But why would a team that wanted Moore as a rental be willing to trade away a rental winger? They'd be looking to add quality players, not send them out.

Eh I was thinking more a team who is too much over the cap after a trade and moves for Moore and gives up a $4-5M winger, we'd have to move Walker too of course. We'll just wait and see, but man 2 months is too far away.
