It costed the Rangers a 2nd to dump him to Detroit on a higher cap hit. Only way you’d get a first in a cap dump is if it’s a player earning more than $6M. You’d be known as a clown to other gms in the league if your asking price is a 1st to take on a player of Zucker’s cap hit and one year term. No one’s gonna pay you a first for that

Cap space is more scarce and zucker has put up 17 points and 18 points the last two years. For reference it was most likely going to cost the jackets a first to move Nyquist coming off a 50 point season a first to move at the same cap hit. There are only like 5 teams who could afford to take his hit without sending salary back. Would be better off buying him out or waiting till the deadline to move him

Nah, I think ducks would take the second for him and the feel good story putting him in a Ducks uniform would be. The guy was born in OC about the same time as the team founded.

Probably would’ve costed the Jackets nothing else to move Nyquist. Considering what they got in a Bjorkstrand trade it probably would’ve been a little bit less of a return than that. You don’t move a 1st for a player even in these environments unless if the guy is getting paid over $6M.

Jarmo said other options (voracek or Nyquist) were very very expensive to move. If he could’ve moved Nyquist for free he would have. Teams wanted phillys unprotected first for JVR who is better but has a worse cap hit than zucker. There are teams still over the cap with only a few teams with space left

Funny considering Carolina took Paciorietty AND a top 6 defencemen for nothing. But apparently Nyquist would’ve costed more 🤷🏽‍♂️

If Hextall was going to dump an asset for Zucker then he should have done it before free agency. Now what's the point? Who's left? Not much...

Still a decent amount of forwards that are more than useful.
