After acquiring Bjorkstrand and signing Burakovsky, SEA has an absolute influx of wingers. However, they are pretty light on the backend with departures from Giordano, etc. With Weegar, CGY seems to be heavy on the backend. Could a trade work here?
I know SEA just signed McCann, but they probably weren't expecting these wingers to just fall in their lap the way they did. I picked McCann for his ability to also play center (where SEA is now relatively strong at with Beniers, Wright, Wennberg, Gourde, etc), if CGY will need a 2C in Monahan's likely/probable/potential absence. Also, just feeding into the stuff, this trade is an American for a Canadian, so... plus! It's a long term signing for CGY, to give some much needed relief there.
SEA defense pairings will now be Dunn-Larrson, Hanifin-Oleksiak, Soucy-Schultz which is a pretty strong dcorps, I believe. This move also opens up for Tanev to return to the top 9, where he really seemed to thrive in SEA last season, instead of being relegated to the 4th line.
Long term, CGY has 15 contracts signed with 27mil in space, which should be plenty for Huberdeau (9-10mil), Weegar (6mil), the remaining bottom pieces, and figuring out the 2C position (10-11mil for those).
Obviously, but if he's there it pushes the others down.
This is not a reason to get rid of your best players. This is a reason to get rid of people down the depth charts like valimaki. This is like saying trade Lindholm because zary doesn't get to play.

Lmao, it's really funny how you continually cherry pick one line to criticize, instead of looking at the whole picture. Oh well
What are you talking about? Light on wingers? 4M dman on the 3rd pair?
Two of Shillington (contract pending, I'm assuming between 3-4mil), Zadorov, or Tanev will be on the 3rd pairing. Regarding the offense, I don't know what is confusing. There is no replacement for Gaudreau and no relevant 2C (pending Monahan)
I also say this assuming Dube will be moved back to a forced, uncomfortable center position given the current roster
Hanifin is definitely good, but I think you are crazy to say Hanifin is better long term, from today forward
Yes from today forward. Provided they can sign him long term. Considering Weager is rhd and stronger on that side I would keep Hanafin and move Tanev next off season.

Kylington certainly hasn't earned anywhere close to 4M, 2.5M max. Also Sutter os notorious for rolling the lines pretty evenly. Last year despite being "3rd pair" Gudbranson averaged over 18 minutes a night. Even if Weegar were to be played at 3RD he would very possibly get time on both special teams and average close to 20 minutes. And none of Z, Kylington, or Weeger make or will make 4M
Huberdeau is clearly the replacement for Gaudreau so you can maybe argue there's no replacement for Tkachuk. McCann however certainly doesnt replace that. Monahan is currently expected to return and Pelletier is expected to make the top 9. Depth is far from an issue. The only worrying thing is the loss of an elite talent
