The cost for dumping Zaitsev alone is realistically 2 2nd round picks (based on the similar Ghost and Stralman trades) minimum.

the habs dont consider Byron a cap dump so it works out to Dvorak for essentially a 2nd round pick. Thats not remotely enough when theres no gambling apsect of potentially getting a top 10 pick.

Considering the market and the fact that the Habs need to shed around 3 millions in salary, i could leave with this kind of return especially with the need of Rhd. Zaitsev would fill a hole and could be bought out next offseason. Ottawa will be contending for a playoffs spot but might very well end up short. In next year draft a top 20 pick will land you a great prospect.

How exactly do they need to shed 3 million? Dach is the only guy left to sign and he is not getting 3 million and at that point they would be at 24 players. they need a million max and they can always waive hoffman armia or byron for non game days.

Montreal can absorb Zaitsev contract and continue their rebuild with pick. Habs will not be competitive next year so adding Zaitsev doesn’t hurt them at all. He will only become a problem in 2023.

MTL get back what they paid for Dvorak, and OTT 1st could end up being 10-16 if they miss the playoffs. OTT get a 2/3C in Dvorak, and a big 3rd RW in Armia.

That could work too. Ottawa bottom 6 is a big weakness. They traded Brown, Paul and Theirney and didn’t replace them at all. Armia had a terrible year but he is still a effective players on the forecheck and can chip in offensively.

Yeah he's not worth his deal but it's only two years where Montreal has a short term need for a filler at the position during the rebuild and they still clear Armia's cap to negate some of this.

OTT need forward depth. They add a 3C and a 3RW. They also get to dump Zaitsev contract, that alone is worth at least a 2nd.
