Montreal is not giving up Barron, Winnipeg is not in a position to be demanding they do either. The Jets really won't get "fair value" for Dubois just like the Habs won't get "fair value" for Drouin. Both players now have a reputation of giving up on their teams, neither will return what we hope they would in a trade and add to that that PLD not only requested a trade but his agent also said he would like to play for Montreal as soon as possible, and that further decreases his value.

Montreal has no leverage to be able to force the Jets to accept crap in a Dubois trade. Montreal fans need to realize that Chevy has no pressure to takea poor deal and no one has more leverage than Chevy.

Copp just got a prospect, and two seconds (one turned into a first) at the deadline. You don’t think some team trying to contend would give up a haul for two guaranteed years of PLD? People get their judgment clouded by excitement and overreacting to situations. This whole PLD and MTL craze is all being stirred up by an agent and the media. What you literally just pointed out, which was the return in the Copp trade says all that needs to be said. PLD is going to bring back a solid haul at the TDL to a desperate contender trying to get over the hump. MTL fans just aren’t seeing the full picture here, they just hear what the media says and immediately jump to the fact that MTL will get PLD for 50 cents on the dollar. PLD will be a hot commodity at this years TDL. While we’re at it, half the jets roster could be lol. Who knows what happens with the squad by that point. The thing MTL fans are missing is that Chevy isn’t budging on his ask for a player MTL won’t want to give up.

Correct, MTL won't move Suzuki for him. No other team is going to move a player of Suzuki's caliber for PLD either because that's a lateral move that doesn't help the team trading for him. That's just being stubborn, not really leverage. If a GM is dumb enough to trade an equal player ++ then let em have it because that's just a dumb move. PLD has plenty of value and most proposals have been absolute trash but the guys isn't going to return the moon...

Most of your post is you're own assumptions and wishful thinking. Dubois has never said he doesn't wasn't to be there, the only thing he has said is trade he likes Winnipeg and that he wants to yet FA in two years, presumably to maximize his earnings.

Hes the one with a deadline, not MTL. Theres a finite amount of time he has to find a trading partner, MTL can be as patient as they like. and seeing as we just saw the biggest FA of this offseason take less money to go to a place he wanted i'm not too worry about the mystical inflated FA contract.

And i'm saying in this situation no one else has less leverage then him. he can wait and also run the risk of being left with an injured dubois at the deadline, or being half into a playoff run and not wanting to rent out one of his key players even though he's going to walk. Time brings risk that only fall on his side of the equation.

Okay, I get what you're saying. In this case though the benefits of waiting and not taking a poor offer outweigh the risks for Chevy. As Chevy has two years, so if something happens before he is moved this year, he has the following year as a do over.

And run the same risks over again. Yup great plan, every playoff team is going to have the cap space and need at the 2024 TDL to take a PLD. BTW, the other thing you keep forgetting is IF Chevy waits and does not trade him at the deadline he still runs the risk of losing PLD for what we are proposing or less. Montreal could just wait until after the 2023 draft and OS PLD for 1 year at 6.25 mil and sure Chevy can match on a player who doesn't want to be there but would he? That OS compensation is a 2024 1st and a 3rd, much worse than what is being offered right now. So time is not on Chevy's side, he has 3 critical deadlines to deal with. 1. getting PLD to sign by Dec 1st. 2. The 2023 TDL if he is in a playoff spot he will not trade PLD and if the return is too low or PLD is injured then he won't be traded either. 3. FA in 2023 as Montreal (or any team) could offer sheet PLD for less than 6.3 mil on a 1 year term making the compensation not worth not matching then he is again stuck with a player who if he can't trade him could be injured or he could be in a playoff spot again at the 2024 TDL.

Why would Habs give up prospects and pics for Dubois. He said he wants to play in Montreal so just wait two years and sign him for nothing. Winnipeg are in a horrible situation, there is no way they get anywere close to his value in a trade, because Habs don' have to. Plus Habs don't even have the cap space to sign him to a 7.5-8M contract this year so just be patient and wait.

Completely get why MTL isn’t moving Suzuki for PLD, I wouldn’t either. I just said that Chevy won’t budge on his asking price because he doesn’t owe PLD or Montreal anything. I just was voicing that a lot of fans get their judgement clouded by excitement and overreaction. Which is totally true, I wanted to see mark scheifele sent to the moon after his exit media availability and now I don’t feel that way at all.

I just think that fans on both sides of the PLD and MTL situation need to temper their expectations. MTL isn’t going to be able to pluck PLD away for cheap, and Winnipeg isn’t going to return a Caufield or Suzuki. But I can guarantee that there will be a team who’s desperate at the TDL looking to go on a deep run that will pay the price Chevy is asking.

The issue is that MTL isn’t the only team that would be in the mix to trade for PLD. Sure MTL can wait till 2024 and take their shot then. Best case scenario for the jets is to keep Dubois for the year and go on a playoff run and move him next summer after a big year, so that would be no concern at all. You have to remember what Andrew Copp fetched as a rental at the TDL and he walked. A team is going to pay more than what MTL fans have been offering for 2 years of Dubois at the TDL.
