Description
Isles get a struggling forward making too much money for a year, move him to the wing because he hasn't driven play well at C and is coming off of injury; less responsibility than being down the middle of the ice.

Flames get middle-6 W to help replace some of Gaudreau's production, might fit better in Sutter's system. Under contract for another season, but more tradeable with the retention and cheaper for Calgary this year with Tkachuk and Mangiapane needing new contracts. No future assets shipped out to trade Monahan.

Am I way off with this? Would moving Monahan to the wing be a viable option for both player and team? Is Bailey enough of an upgrade for Calgary for taking him for an additional year to be worth it? Hard to see this team getting better without trading Bailey, but no one is taking him straight up for draft picks either. Gonna have to try doing it in one move I think

If I was the Islanders I think this would be a low risk, high reward deal. I feel like Sean has more left to give and just needs a new team. Would be interested to see how he does somewhere else. Worse case, its one year at 6 million and another year hold Baileys one million contract.

If am the flames, I'm not sure tho. I feel with how good the UFA pool in 2023 is going be, why add more cap for an average player? Bailey could help with Johnny leaving but he won't be close to the same production.

Islanders decline both trade offers. Bellows attached to Panik is worth more than FC’s. Monahan for Bailey with retention is terrible value for NY.

Panik has a cap hit of $250K, the Islanders have no problem keeping him. Bellows is a steep price for what amounts to 1/3 of an entry-level contract on the cap. The Bailey move is lateral at best and not worth hurting whatever chemistry he brings.

Can’t see CGY making a lateral move like that while taking on an additional year of bad cap.

I don’t see how the CGY trade is bad value at all for us. Monahan is no worse than Bailey, with upside and the ability to play C/take faceoffs. His contract is tough, but if Lambert could find the right fit for him in the lineup, you can still be getting a valuable player despite overpaying him for a season. Worst case, we wash our hands of it next summer and shed $4 million in cap in the process.

Was more concerned about the value for the Flames, but seeing the direction they might be headed now, I definitely think this is a no-go anyways

I’d argue it isn’t bad cap — Bailey’s $5 million is only a headache because he doesn’t really fit in the lineup anymore with Palmieri and Wahlstrom taking up the top 6 RW spots — but I didn’t know how stacked the UFA class could be next year, so yeah, it might be more worthwhile for the Flames to dip into that

I mean he’s not bad salary, but the islanders won’t trade Bailey for a terrible contract like Monahan.

Dude Monahan is completely washed. He’s had so many injuries he makes Matt Martin look fast.

He had four surgeries in one offseason four years ago and followed it up with the best season of his career. Last season he played almost exclusively in Calgary’s bottom-6 with the likes of Lucic, Lewis and Dube. Maybe this recent hip injury is what does him in, but until we know that, I’d be willing to take the gamble and see what he’s still got. If it doesn’t work out, you wash your hands of it and take the $4 mill in cap space. I’d honestly prefer that to dumping Bailey to Arizona for a third round pick or whatever

He’s finished lol. Bailey can be moved without retention imo.

George McPhee says the isles should just trade Beau and Bailey for futures lol
