An offer sheet is definitely something that makes sense. PLD can threaten to play like garbage if Winnipeg matches, and even if Winnipeg does match, a 2 year offer sheet would lead Dubois right to free agency.

You might want to be careful with what you are wishing for with Dubois as he brings alot of internal drama to a team.

You think a player would threaten to play poorly and make himself look bad? Don’t see that being a thing.

I also think you actually help Winnipeg’s here. They would match the offer and then move him, maybe even with retention, to another team on a sweetheart deal making him more valuable.

I don't know what you think this is but "threaten to play poorly" and make no team on the face of the planet want him is a horrible idea. Secondly, if he signs a contract, it's the Jets that holds the power. This ain't the NBA. They can bury him in the AHL if he plays like garbage, just look at Mike Richards who made like 4.8 mil playing in the AHL.

Also, this only theoretically works if Price retires, which still is a big if.

You are totally helping Winnipeg here. Imagine how much a contender like Tampa would be willing to pay for him at 4M. They just moved 2 1sts for hagel lol. Doesn’t matter if he’ll sign long term at that point. You have a 1C at 4M/yr here.

Tampa's cupboard is bare and the 1sts are gone, their best prospects are 3rd/4th round picks from two or three years ago. Are teams even going to accept the 2025 1st at this point? There's not much there that would lift the needle for a player like Dubois, character issues or not.

Counter point, signing an offer sheet and trying to big dog the team by threatening to play like **** is an absolutely terrible idea. First of all I feel like if that kind of threat is ever explicitly said the player could end up in trouble with the league. More importantly though, if I'm Winnipeg you snap match the offer sheet and you sit him in the press box for two years unless he's willing to be an adult or MTL ponies up good value for Dubois. That's the Jets leverage, they can threaten to airhole his career by giving him no reps for two full years. That's the problem, if Winnipeg is firm enough, there's no way for Dubois to get out on his own terms.

If only there was a very recent Cup Winner currently in need of a 2C, particularly a cheap one.

Well it’s Pierre-Luc Dubois and he already appears to be killing his own value so it’s entirely possible he’d do it. Also Winnipeg wouldn’t be allowed to trade him for a full year after the offersheet, at which point he wouldn’t have much term left.

You can’t trade a guy for a full year after an offersheet.

If it’s a 2 yr deal, the jets have him for a cup run and then move him. That way, the jets can go all in, and if it doesn’t work out, tear it down. Either way, they’ll be getting a lot more than a 2nd 😂

I do not know the rule on this but this concept only works if you can add trade protection to an offer sheet. Otherwise the habs dont gain any advantage or leverage. Before people state PLD is a trash human for wanting out lets remember how toxic the jets locker room is reported to be by even jets writers, they seem to have a knack for driving talented players away.
