columbus can’t afford to take on cap dumps, they’ve got a significant amount of cap they need to dump as well

Unless the Jackets have a plan to play Kerfoot at centre, I simply don't see the fit. They are knee deep in wingers, and even at centre, not sure Kerfoot offers much of an upgrade on their current group.

CBJ pass.

Please, do not trade Kerfoot to us.

What would you suggest Columbus’s cap compliant lines would look like after this trade?

I was honestly unaware of CBJ's cap crunch. Updated it with Sandin so they aren't taking Holl back.

The plan was to have Kerfoot play center to improve CBJ's depth there. He's good defensively, versatile (plays wing and center well) and his contract is up at the same time as Peekes.

Still can't do it. That's a trade of Columbus's 1RD (even if he's not a real 1RD, he's the one we've got who works with Werenski's style) for a cap dump to a team with no cap to spare. Thirty other teams available. Try Anaheim, Seattle, Buffalo, etc.

There isn't room for Kerfoot either and Peeke is one of their few defense first defensemen. I can't see him being moved unless they're getting a RD upgrade.

Kerfoot is not a cap dump in any sense. He is a middle-six player who kills penalties and plays both wing and center. Connor Brown, a comparable player who doesn't play center, just fetched at 2nd round pick.

One of the main reasons I see a fit here is that I cannot see Columbus' playing their second highest-paid defenseman, Gudbranson, on the 3rd pair. This trade opens a spot for him in the top 4 and I altered it to send Sandin back with Kerfoot. Full warning, I know nothing about the Jacket's depth guys, but here is what cap compliant lines could look like:

Fair, I made cap-compliant lines with Kerfoot below and added Sandin to the trade who is worse as an NHLer right now but some would argue has higher upside than Peeke. I see Gudbranson as Peeke's replacement as a DFD.

e's a cap dump in the literal sense. You can't afford him on the roster. Neither can Columbus. He's a luxury to both teams. Send him to somewhere that can afford that luxury.
