Fun blow-up hypothetical, think WPG has been stuck in the mud for too long here, gotta try gain some traction towards real progress.

1.
WPG
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. Dvorak, Christian
  3. Guhle, Kaiden
Détails additionnels:
Tough to deal an RFA like this, but grabbing a vet like Byron helps locker room and Dvorak is a solid middle 6 center. Guhle has a chance to be a top pairing guy, so I can understand hesitancy from MTL, but you've gotta give a little to get a little.
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
He may not deserve it, but doing right by PLD doesn't hurt, let MTL expedite their window. There'd have to be an extension in place before the trade is complete.
2.
WPG
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony
Détails additionnels:
Take a low-risk shot at Tito finding his form, think he fits well with the long-term outlook of the team.
NYI
  1. Dillon, Brenden
  2. Vesalainen, Kristian [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
NYI gets even bigger and even meaner on the backend, hopefully a change of scenery will serve Vesalainen well.
3.
WPG
  1. Askarov, Yaroslav
  2. Johansen, Ryan
Détails additionnels:
Johansen isn't a super steep dropoff from Scheif's production, contract is a lot but getting a goalie of the future feels worth 8x3.
NSH
  1. Scheifele, Mark
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2025 (WPG)
Détails additionnels:
NSH gets some offensive pop while clearing cap, makes them better soon as he hits the ice.
4.
WPG
  1. Blackwood, Mackenzie
  2. Foote, Nolan
  3. Sharangovich, Yegor
Détails additionnels:
Get younger and fully commit to a rebuild, give Hellebuyck a chance to compete in his prime.
NJD
  1. Hellebuyck, Connor
Détails additionnels:
NJD has the money to spend, Hellebuyck's contract isn't too much for them to re-sign Bratt. Losing depth scoring hurts but they had a chance to be a playoff time last year if they got even average goaltending.

STORY OF MY LIFE!!

I am more willing to pay the price for a top-10 goalie than for a winger.

I think I sent these in another thread a while back:

1. A 2023 1st round pick (top-5 protected, rolls to unprotected 2024 1st)
2. Blackwood
3. Your choice of Daws, Schmid, (or I guess Brennan)
4. Your choice of Walsh, Boqvist, Thompson, Zetterlund, McCarthy (or similar level prospect)

or

1. 2023 or 2024 2nd round pick
2. Blackwood
3. Your choice of Daws, Schmid, (or I guess Brennan)
4. Your choice of Foote, Holtz, Gritsyuk

Keeping Sharangovich over Holtz would be a mistake IMO, need that low cap number Holtz will have for the next few years to keep young core together. I'm not huge on either option, but 2 feels much better than 1.

You gain traction by committing to either competing or rebuilding, nothing worse than just being in the middle of the league for as long as the Jets have been and will be unless they change their ways.

Agreed. But you don't gain traction by trading good, valuable players for bad, low value players. You'd be better off trading those good players for youth or picks as opposed to deadweight from other teams.

Islanders reject their d core is set as of rn so why should they trade a forward who they need in the upcoming season?

It has been reported that PLD was at the draft in MTL with the expectation that a deal would get done sending him to MTL.

As a habs fan, I'm not interested in trading Guhle for Dubois... but oddly enough Romanov got traded and he would have made sense here instead of Guhle.

I also wonder why MTL traded Romanov and a couple picks for Dach if they are still trying to acquire Dubois? Did they give all that up for Dach to be a 3C? Maybe he gets flipped to WPG?

Not sure there is a keep Connor and ehlers happy scenario, quite possibly the jets two best jets and two best contracts, might be a sell high scenario, going to be rough on fan base and organization. But could be In the cards next off season, a lot riding on this season. Would be nice to find 3 more firsts along with there own and have 5 firsts to go with last 3 firsts going forward.

Yeah I can see that, think going full rebuild requires seeing them out. I opted for a "retool" for the sake of keeping fans engaged, but I can see the benefit of going all in.

You see these guys as low value? I can see the argument for Johansen maybe but other than that, all proven middle 6 guys and some potential to be more.

I hate this BS approach that management uses. For too long they’ve been stuck in the middle of a rebuild and competing. The past 3 years they’ve been stuck in that spot and it’s the worst place you can be. I’d hate to see it, but I’d rather see Chevy go all in and go for it than sell some here, buy some there. Commit one way or the other and the fanbase will be more satisfied with that then playing with your thumbs while other teams act with confidence.

I don’t mind the base of a lot of these trades. Not sure NYI does that as they added Romanov for a top 13 pick so I’d imagine they hope he plays top 4. But Lou loves guys like Dillon so who knows. I actually love the NSH trade, just not sure NSH would, although getting out of Johansens deal may be attractive. I feel like NJ makes out pretty well in that deal, jets get good value as well. I think MTL won’t want to move Guhle, but I feel like something around Barron + Dvorak and a 1st could be made.

In relation to what the Jets are giving up they are.

From Montreal the Jets are getting:

Byron - cap dump
Dvorak - meh 3C
Guhle - unneeded LD prospect

Nashville:

Johansen - more expensive, much worse player

Jersey:

Blackwood - low end, bad backup
A couple unneeded wingers.

The trades fill no holes for the Jets and serve to drop the Jets talent level, but not far enough to tank.

If the Jets trade Helly, Scheifele and Dubois then they have to do a full rebuild and move Ehlers and Connor as well.

Dvorak can be a solid 2C replacement for Dubois. He looked good under MSL and could produce some points if given scoring wingers. I’d rather see Barron in that deal over Guhle to address positional needs.

Getting askarov from NSH is the main attraction to that deal. Jets have no goalie of the future and that deal provides them with one while also bringing in a veteran C who can still produce.

The Jersey trade is good for Winnipeg. Hellebuyck is only going to have 2 years with NJ and who knows what his next deal looks like. Jets have played the crap out of him and I’m not sold on longevity. Sharangovich adds to a weak group of wingers and Foote is a decent prospect, I’d rather see a bit different of a package for hellebuyck like mentioned above by a Devils fan.

I see these deals as exactly what a retooling team would do. Adding youth while shipping out older guys on deals without long term deals.

Well have to agree to disagree. These trades just reduce the Jets overall talent level, but not enough to be truly bad.

It just moves the Jets farther away from competing but still keeps them above the real bad teams. It really just gives the Jets further to climb to get out of the mushy middle.

In other words the same thing they've been doing for years.
