Do habs fans really want PLD? He seems like a massive analhide. Probably gonna get benched by St Louis. Send him to arizona I want to see him retire.

Montreal and Anderson both rejected this trade. PLD and Anderson are good friends both want to be linemates and Anderson likely has all other Canadian teams on his 8 team NT list since he wants to play for the Habs.

That's an overpay by the habs, something that shouldn't happen with the lack of leverage WPG has.

I dont get this lack of leverage narrative. PLD is under team control for 2 years. the jets dont have to deal him. He could sit out or be traded. THe habs also have leverage cause they don't need to deal for him, but they alos have cap issues and probably realize they should jump on this ASAP before he gets dealt to another team and maybe he finds a home.

Habs won't have cap issues in 2 years.

It's not like WPG's hands are tied but if the reports are true that Dubois wants to go to MTL then this limits WPG's ability to get a strong return.

WPG traded Laine and Roslovic for Dubois with the expectation that they could sing him long term. Any team trading for Dubois now (except MTL) probably won't have that expectation. If MTL is truly the place he wants to play then MTL doesn't need to offer much more than any other team would be willing to pay for 2 years of Dubois.

I agree. I just think that if a guy of his caliber wants to join your team you should make it happen. Things can change in 2 years. The habs are in a good position to make a trade if the jets agree to take some salary back. Trading a young player like Dach might be tough for the habs but if hes the centerpiece of a PLD deal then they should do it IMO. Throw in one of Dvorak or Hoffman for salary plus FLA's first or even a 2nd and I think the deal should happen

Absolutely, if the price is right for MTL. If MTL's trades for him now they can lock him up to 8 years for less than what he would cost in two years.

That's ultimately what MTL has to consider when making this trade. Is the price tag worth the trade right now or are they better off waiting 2 years for Dubois (or possibly another UFA).

I'm wary but optimistic.
If he forces himself off a 2nd team, then decides he doesn't want to play for the Habs either, they won't be able to recoup any value the 3rd time and he'll have a hefty contract that won't be easy to move.
That said, the possibility of securing a 2C at a lower than normal price is still tempting. Could be Drouin 2.0, or everything could go great, and the team and player are happy and successful with him.

It all depends on the cost to acquire and the contract signed. If it takes multiple 1sts and/or A prospects, or he wants a $9M+ salary, stay away.
If both costs reflect the discount that should apply to a player who's performance is greater than their commitment to honoring their contract, it's worth the attempt.
