Kessel: $1.5MM base + $1.5MM bonus

Acquiring Klefbom allows the Bruins to stay in LTIR all season rather than have to adjust once Marchand, McAvoy, and Grz get healthy. With these numbers, they’d only be using $1.3MM of a $4.2MM allotment, so still room to add up to $3MM at the deadline. I like Steen but he’s no longer waiver exempt and I don’t see a starting role for him on this team, so may as well trade him than eventually lose him on waivers. There are plenty of depth options in Providence.

Signing Kessel for cheap gives you an all-offense option that the Bs rarely have and that Montgomery can utilize. Guarantee him a starting role until he breaks the iron man record and then plug him in as needed from there. Kessel gives them a PP2 that nearly rivals the PP1.
