if habs were smart

By the looks of things, Wright has personality traits that the habs brass didn't like, and there is nothing that Juraj hasn't looked good doing thus far. So i'd say their decision was pretty darn smart.

Don't know anything about the Wright interviews. I think Slaf was always Montréal's man. NJ wasn't taking a 3rd line center at #2. Cooley was Arz guy all along. Seattle, probably, isn't too disappointed.

The old regime made the easy/popular choice by selecting midseason riser Jesperi, this new regime made the difficult/unpopular choice by selecting midseason riser Juraj. We'll have to wait and see if these different paths turn out to be the same result or not.

Wright wasn't the right pick. It's looking like he has some attitude/personality issues, and compare that to Slaf as such a genuine funny guy, I'd take Slaf. Also Slaf has a better mottor and higher end offensive skills on the ice opposed to Wright who mainly relies on his high hockey IQ to make the right decisions here and there. So in my opinion, Slaf has a better chance and the better potential for spouting into an elite star player for the Canadiens than Wright would've. In that case, take Slafkovksy 1st overall would be the smart pick here.

Of course it was. The entire fanbase had been clamouring for a big C, and as he rose up the draft rankings, practically everyone got on board (except pierre mcguire who openly stated Brady would be his pick).

Plus, if you look back at that draft year, unfortunately for the habs, he was legitimately the ONLY option at centre...
