Only reason why MT would sign is it gets him 1.5m more than his QO from Calgary this year Jersey can just wait, keep their picks and spend their cap on Tkachuk next summer or any player next summer or maybe UFA(s) this year.

Players often sign contracts but return to junior...so its part of the ELC "slide". To reach UFA, players usually under the age of 27, has to to "play" seven NHL seasons.
