No. Jarmo hangs up. Jarmo will figure out ways to keep Laine.

If Lamoriello is asking for Laine and the return doesn’t involve of one of Dobson or Barzal, that’s gonna be a no from Columbus.

Neither is getting Laine for pennies on the dollar. I don’t see a deal that’s workable between the Isles and CBJ, honestly.

Anaheim might be a fit there, they are still way under the floor and in need of both forwards and Dmen. Not sure if they'd pay for him, but I'm sure they'd take him to help shelter and guide some of their youth.

Pennies on the dollar? Sorry bro but maybe you should look at what the market is returning for these wingers.
Debrincat - 7, 39, 2024 3rd
Fiala - 19, brock faber
Is an NYI 1st, 2 2nds and bellows equal to 7oa? Id say yes.

I would say that really depends. The pick numbers were already determined in the trades for Cat and Fiala, they are not yet determined for the Islanders. There's definitely risk involved there. Do the Islanders become a playoff team with Laine? How late do those picks end up? Bellows hasn't really lived up to his potential thus far, and getting 4th line minutes means he may not get that chance in NY so I wouldn't consider him a valuable piece, and no where near the level of Brock Faber in terms of current value.

Not saying it's pennies on the dollar either, but might need a better prospect/project player to offset the risk with the picks.

That's where I'm at on this. Replace Bellows (who needs a new contract of his own) with Wahlstrom (who has a low cap hit for this year), and that actually starts looking a little interesting. But with Laine, the Isles picks are likely to be later in their rounds. Oh, and a 2024 first? No sir, we're gonna need that 2023 instead.

Don't forget, if you signed Laine to an offer sheet like the contract you've posited above, you'd be sending your next four 1st-rounders to the CBJ (assuming they didn't match, which they absolutely would). So you need to be thinking in terms of "next four first-round picks" when it comes to value for Laine.

No, it is not equivalent. because it is multiple assets instead of a single asset. Players and picks are not fungible.

Its true that theres risk but theres reward too. Do the islanders with one of the oldest rosters in the league decline further and end up with a top 10 pick plus a 2nd which would be top 40 plus another 2nd. My point is it might not be enough but its right there. Certainly not pennies on the dollar.
Yeah obviously i wouldnt vompare bellows to faber. Kieffers a change of scenery throw in. But a 1st a pair of 2nds a 3rd and dufour equals more than 19 and faber.

Saying they arent equal for the sole reason of ones 1 asset and ones multiple is ass backwards. Quality over quantity is a real thing but that doesnt mean 2 things of lesser value arent worth 1 thing of higher value. Everything has to be valuated and then make a determination based on those values if its fair or not. But the idea that they cant be bc 1 has 1 asset and the other has multiple assets is crazy.

It is the sole and exclusive truth. Players and picks aren't fungible. Would y'all give up Barzal if we offered six 2nd round picks?

WTF no you dont. Offer sheet compensation picks arent meant to be fair value.
And isles had pick 13 this year and have one of the oldest rosters in the league. Declining further ismt a crazy option, especially in the bloodbath east.

The compensation for an offersheet at 8.5mill is two firsts, a second, and a third. Once it goes over 10.5 is when you're talking four firsts.

It would be, if it were for only 5 seasons. HOWEVER, this is 8.5 x 8, and the rule is that it's total compensation divided by the lesser of years offered or five years. In this case, that'd be five years. So you're looking at $68M (8.5x8) divided by 5, which comes to $13.6M, and that is four first rounders right there.
