When PLD was available back with the CBJ I believe Bergevin was trying to trade a package for him involving KK but CBJ was heavily insistent on Suzuki.

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Athletic that Dubois attended the NHL Draft in Montreal because he believed a trade would be completed on the draft floor. As first reported by Radio-Canada’s Martin Leclerc, Montreal offered three players to the Jets in hopes of securing Dubois’ rights.

It is believed that Winnipeg is holding up the deal in an effort to secure a player Montreal has no interest in moving.

This could be why Brisson is trying to increase the pressure.

For Dubois, it’s as simple as wanting to play in Montreal.


I don’t see why we’d acquire Dubois, let’s see what we have in Dach/Dvorak before acquiring someone who’d be our 2c, worst case, we sign him in FA, no need to give up assets. Also can’t see where Winnipeg has leverage if Dubois only wants to go to MTL

In the long term the Devils were gonna lose at least two promising and capable young LHD.
You'd have Ty Smith, Okhotiuk and Bahl all clamoring for the 3LHD spot behind Siegenthaler and Luke Hughes.
Getting ahead of this logjam by turning Smith into Marino makes a ton of sense to me.
Besides, I have a hard time seeing Smith turning into a better player than Marino over the course of their careers.

I like the deal a lot for NJ, Marino’s a solid 2nd pair RD and you now have your Severson replacement for when he leaves inFA next year to run Hamilton-Marino-Nemec. Don’t hate it for Pittsburgh too, you’re banking on those ELC years and Smith developing ( which he could easily do, he has a lot of potential )

I assumed so, but I have a hard time justifying extending Severson now.
Maybe if you keep Nemec in the minors for two years you could extend him and run Hams - Sevs - Marino on the right side, then flip Marino or Severson after the 23-24 season with Nemec replacing?
