Description
I moved on from the VV and Sammy mess and was at happy with the new goalie tandem and the fact that GMBM said he would fill the rest of the spots with guys from the system. Finally he would let youth into the lineup except he won’t. He brought back mojo terrible move, signed Gustafson, and brought in brown. Why the need to let Snively, Lapierre, McMichael, and some of their other NHL ready young guys into lineup to actually have a shot at playoff success. All he had to do was not sign any old guys and he went and ****ed that up too. Good Job GMBM looking forward to another year of first round exit if not missing the playoffs because your too stupid to let the young guys into the lineup

It’s the fact that these players are taking roster spots that need to be given to young players

With you. There is absolutely no ****ing reason in the world that Protas should not take nearly every second of ice time that Wilson is injured for. He's 6'6 225 pounds had a 54% CF in 33 games, got some PP time. What the hell else more does GMBM want to see? I really don't get this dude.

I don’t understand him either I feel like he really hasn’t done a good job the past few years In general but this is something he does every year. I really like Snively I wanted to see him get a spot

I'd absolutely have Snively in the mix for bottom 6 forward minutes, along with AJF. Is Alex Alexeyev injured or something? He should be getting that 3LD spot by now, he's 22 and picked same draft before Fehervary.

Alexeyev is injured so I am sort of ok with the D signings. But I was hoping with him injured Johansen would step up and earn that D role

Oh man - respectfully, I am going to slightly (key word) disagree with you here.

1) Brown: The caps desperately needed to bring in a forward who can score 15+ goals and have grit. That is the definition of Connor Brown. He is skilled, has 1 year remaining on his contract, and is a heart and soul kinda player (like Oshie / WIlson). Our current rookies do not instill the confidence of scoring 15+ goals that Brown does. Yes, at some point you give them a shot, but not rely on them to do so when you are trying to contend for a cup

2) Gustafsson - I absolutely love this signing. He is cheap and experienced. A great puck moving defender who will pair nicely with everyone (besides Carlson). Think TVR signing type - cheap, low, low risk, and experienced. Johansen will have a chance to compete, and worst case, he takes over the role next year. He had one nice year in the AHL - let him get more experience. Late bloomer, I know. Again, you can't bank on a player that has one good season in the AHL after being so inconsistent down there to come up to NHL and play consistently.

3) MoJo - This one is slightly confusing to me. MoJo is solid at puck entries, and clearly, the Caps are concerned with their offensive efficiency. That being said, if MoJo takes a spot from a younger player (say Protas, Snively, or, god forbid, McMichael), this would be a terrible move. I would hope he would be a depth signing to come into the lineup to provide players a night off or for injuries.

4) I know you didn't really touch on Borgstrom, but I absolutely love the signing. I think he will actually do well in a change of scenery. Low risk high reward

I am not a huge fan of the Brown trade but I am mostly angry about the Mojo signing because the contract he signed isn’t to be a scratch he is taking a spot from a young guy

Agreed on MoJo.

For Brown, who would you expect to provide mid 6 scoring that is missing with Wilson out?

I was have high hopes in McMichael and Snively. Snively played In the top 6 11 games last year and had 7 points

While I have high hopes for them as well (as a Caps fan of course I do), that is a lot of risk to bank on Snively and McMichael to have the productivity that Brown has / that teams need to compete...I like Snively a lot and am so so on McMichael (I think he is overhyped for what he showed last season), you cannot bank on them having 40 points (what Brown had last season). If GMBM didn't go out and get a proven mid 6 forward, Caps fans would have been calling for him to be fired.

Also, a lot of rookies start out fast, but then slow down in productivity - Alan May said that constantly once our rookies last season slowed down

Dang it - GMBM brought in another player to take McMichael and Snively's spot!
