That's going to make things super tight when Mac, Byram and Newhook's extensions kick in. Probably have to move someone else out at that point. Also, Naz to age 37 is tough to swallow. They need a 2C but that contract is going to age poorly.

Mack get's Johnson's money, you trade Girard and give that money to Byram, if Newhook plays really well then you either trade him out for cost controlled pieces or trade Kadri. Cap also goes up by 10-15 million in two or three years. You are focusing too much on the money.

Economics is part of being an astute GM/President and Sakic has been a master at it so far. Sooner or later you lose the value game when you have to trade good players just so you are able to pay the good players that are already on your roster. Sakic will smartly avoid that by not signing Kadri.
