It's time to rebuild. Not going to happen because that seems like a cursed word in this franchise. We may lose 2/3's of one of the best lines in the leauge this season, might as well rebuild while we have assets to help us.

Avs will talk to you about Lindholm when you're ready!

In all seriousness, it's a difficult situation for Calgary. Not sure why everyone is tossing around other UFA to "replace Gaudreau" when they have no cap space after signing Tkachuk, Mangiapane, and Kylington. But the majority of the roster is aged for a current playoff push. They still have a "deep" team; but are close to getting wiped out at the top if Tkachuk takes the 1 year deal and you lose Lindholm in 2.

Well, Brad Treliving had different ideas. smile

(Really seems crazy that a month ago rebuilding seemed inevitable.)

So did he do the right thing, or should they have started a rebuild instead?

From the outside, looking in:

1. The drama associated with Gaudreau and Tkachuk is rapidly dissipating;
2. Markstrom should be extremely motivated after the way the recent playoffs ended for Calgary;
3. The addition of Weegar should make an already very good Flames defense even better;
4. Weegar's presence also opens to possibility that Treliving might improve his group of forwards by trading one of his defensemen;
5. The contract Huberdeau signed suggests to me that the Flames are serious about contending for the Stanley Cup now;
6. Cole Schwindt is a very, very good prospect who will challenge for a spot on the NHL club. He looks like he's going to be a solid NHL player sooner rather than later;
7. Signing Khadri strengthens the Flames depth at centre, and on both special teams, and underscores that win-now approach; and,
8. Lucic will play out his contract and then the Flames have extra cap space to make more positive moves next summer.

It all looks pretty good to me. I think Treliving made off like a bandit, despite the turmoil this summer.
