"How Many Picks Does It Take?" The answer is zero. Gee for 8m X 8,(7) just sign a UFA in the this summer or next and keep all those young assets and picks.
That's a massive overpay for a second line centre.

Winnipeg says no. Those picks are whatever but it's the lack of good prospects that is a turn off

A first and a second/third plus good prospects

This isn't that good of an offer, but it's far better than any Habs fans trades we've had to read.

Detroit is probably a year or two away from making big deals like the PLD and Chychrun deals.

And to get PLD names like Wallinder, Edvinsson, Capser and Niederbach would need to be involved.

Exactly how I feel about the Penguins & Pettersson trades with Detroit.

Buium & Mazur are good prospects but, not our best. Both are B prospects. Mazur is probably our 3rd/4th best forward prospect and Buium is right around 4th/5th on the defensive side but we’re pretty loaded there.

I figured two B prospects, unprotected 1st, two 2nds & a 3rd would do the job. I can understand if you disagree.


I’m not sure Dubois is even moved at all. I think the offer is sufficient though in terms of value but if he is moved, the deal would likely include a current starting NHL player along with young assets/picks.

I don’t really put a lot of stock into 1st/2nd line distinctions, I believe to win a Stanley cup you need two 1st line centers. Which I believe both Dubois and Larkin are. Not every team can have a McDavid & Draisatl down the middle.

And there aren’t any 24 year old top line Centremen on the market, unfortunately.




I actually I am very happy with the LHD pipeline as is. We really have no need for Chychrun long term. I just like him as a player and his contract is good, although it won’t help us in 3 years when he’s due a hefty raise. I figured by rounding out the roster and making additional moves to make us competitive now, it could make sense. But Chychrun as a stand-alone move, makes little sense.

Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johanssen & William Wallinder will maintain those 3 LHD spots by the 2023 season and all three of them will be studs.
