Incase you forgot, the Leafs literally had to give up nothing for a two time Stanley Cup champ. Sens gave up a young, promising goalie for Talbot

How many Vezna votes does he have? What year did he win those cups? If he was so valuable why did the penguins let him go? He won 2 cups there? How many times in the last 4 years has he had a S% over.900. Was he playing in the AHL last year?

Sens win the trade, in the memory of Eugene Melnyk, Sens go from paying Murray $7 million in real cash vs. $6.2 cap hit (negative 800k) to paying Talbot $3 million in real cash vs. $3.66 million cap hit (666k savings).

Even when you factor in the $1.56 milion retained on Murray, Sens got $5.23 against the cap, which is $1 million less than having Murray's $6.25 cap hit.

Talbot > Murray too on the ice.

He had over a 0.900sv last year and in 2019 so there is your question answered

In general many goalies who struggle are sent to the AHL to find themselves and it worked. It allowed Murray to come back and thrive for 2.5months with a 0.918 sv then Zaistev ran him over and he played 2 games with a head injury lowering it to a 0.906. And in general Pittsburgh let him walk because of money. Jarry was cheaper by 3mill thats why they moved on. As with the Zucker acquisition and Desmith being an option for backup we knew one of the guys was gone

Yes 1/2 he was above .900 which is an acceptable #. Like really good is around .915 ish area. Normally established goalies don’t go to the AHL and penguins let him go bc he was struggling and his numbers dipped. After having a terrible year he asked for 6m. It wasn’t like he was a Vezna finalist or even coming off an amazing year. Basically lost his job to Jarry. Money wasn’t the only factor.

Maybe he can become great again but glorifying Murray over Talbot is a bad look.

I mean it depends on injuries and status. You could tell Murray was not happy with OTT and his play showed till that 2.5month stretch where he was like K I got a shot lets impress and he did till Zaisev ran him over. Now am I saying either guy over Campbell is a great idea. No but in the end there was no real upgrade and the risks for any of the goalies out there were just as big if not bigger.

As either guy could be great or could be really bad. I feel in the end its up to the play of the goalie and who is supporting him

If Murray finds his game and puts up a 0.912 and has a guy like Reimer who can play over 30 games tandeming with him were good

In the end its a gamble but sometimes gambles pay off for the team

In Talbots case goes to ott and either thrives or struggles same with Murray

Its a wait and see game

He was extremely valuable to the Pens, he was traded to avoid arbitration. How many cups does Talbot have? Also, Murray was sent to the AHL for the purpose of a conditioning stint. Frederik Andersen played in the AHL last year too. Talbot has won nothing. Murray's name is on the cup twice

With all the Boston injuries why not go for it now. The 4th spot is wide open for them and by the time Boston gets healthy it could be to late

Heck with Krejci and Bergeron probs signing for only a year Ottawa might move them out of the big 4 spot soon

There's blood in the water. Sens are in a position to push for top half of the Atlantic, and I don't see any of the Metro teams taking a real step forward this year. They should be in the wildcard hunt next year. All eyes on DJ, because he's had a pair of season killing starts, and Dorion is giving him no excuse this year. You don't give him for than 7 games, if you aren't confident in him you have to cut rope Imo.

weird deal but makes sense for both sides.

Sens get a proven backup they have needed for a LONG time. Forsberg/Gustavsson tandem isn't good enough.

Wild get much needed cap space, and Gustavsson is not a bad gamble. Not a blue chip prospect, but as a Sens fan I am sad to see him go. Has potential at only 24 yrs.

I’m so confused.

Are they trying to contend

As a Sens fan, I can say they are just trying to not be trash. gus is unproven and has work to do.

TML might as well sign Holtby too because hE wOn A cUp.

The only thing Murray is going to win next season is the number of appearance of his name on the injury list.

Holtby would have actually been a great option, but he's retiring due to injury

LOL. Thanks for enlighten me.

Could you also inform me on how many games lost did Murray had in the last 2 years due to upper body, lower body, neck, head and undisclosed injuries?

Looking foward to it smile

Lmfao. Murray is having a good year but the main complaint was he was playing for the Sens and that’s why he looked like crap…. Talbot has comparable stats playing for the Sens. Idk why you think these are funny. Remains true. Murray still isn’t a 2 cup winner caliber goalie. He’s not even the best goalie on the team. Lol stay mad

Doesnt need to be the best to do his job

Thats why theres a thing called tandem and a NHL William M. Jennings award

Murray got the better road record while Sammy got the better home record. Dont know why but hey its working so im good

As having 2 good goalies going into the playoffs aint a bad thing

Also Talbots stats were worse lul

And Murray’s stats were better lul (got worse)

They aren’t even the best tandem? They have both been inconsistent or injured which is why their previous teams let them go.

Not knowing who your starter is going into the playoffs is “bad”. Like that saying goes … “if you have 2 goalies, you don’t have a goalie”

I mean there’s still his major injury concerns too. He’s clearly Torontos number 2 at this point. But in terms of value, Murray, 2 picks and Gustavsson for Talbot is really bad.
