Description
This would still leave about $10M for a Boldy bridge deal, which I figure would be about $3M to carry though the cap constraints

I like Malkin a lot and he still can play, but signing a 35 year old that has been plagued with injuries his entire year for more than 1-2 years seems like a disaster waiting to happen when you're tied up with $13-14M in dead cap the next 3 years. I'd rather let another team take that chance on him, especially given all the moves we'd have to make to be able to pay him.

Just to clear up this injury issue...

The surgery he had before the 21/22 season dates back to the 2019/2020 season. He tried to rehab without surgery, the injury got worse in the 2020/21 season and needed surgery. After major surgery, no off-season conditioning, no pre-season, comes back halfway in the 21/22 season with over a PPG. He's healthy.

That's not what I'm talking about. He hasn't played 82 games since he has been 22. He gets some sort of injury every year it seems. In the past 10 years he has played more than 70 games only once.

In addition to this, he would be a true #1 center that we have never had. We have the defensive prospects to handle the losses of Dumba and the others that will have expiring deals like Goligoski, Merill, and Kulikov. Adding a center like this could let Rossi hold on to a solid second spot with Boldy and another prospect in a year or so

I don't disagree, but again - when you have $13-14M in dead cap space and have to trade 2-3 players to be able to sign a guy who is very good and I'd love on paper, but you can count on him missing 10-15 games each season and maybe more, it just makes no sense to me.

What do you think it would cost to trade for Dumba?

Well, if Malkin is destined to leave, we can help. Trading for Dumba lets us move Marino for Miller.
