I thought they might have gone for more term, but I think it was smart that they didn’t. When a player is coming off an unprecedented year in his fifth full season, it’s hard to tell whether that was a breakout season and a sign of things to come, or just a one-time thing that he’ll never come close to again. The worst thing you can do in this league is to sign a guy who turns out to be in the latter category to a long-term contract that pays him based on the one good season. This contract seems to strike a reasonable balance between the potential risk and reward.
