Sure they do?! Stars get a replacement top 4 RHD for a pick and a prospect. Rangers get a 2/3 center for a pick and a prospect that is buried on their depth charts. Calgary dumps Monahan and his 6.75 mil at the cost of a late 1st but also get back a mid round pick instead of a late round pick. Since all 3 teams are in win now mode the players and cap space is more valuable to them then picks and prospects. I guess no one will be happy unless Montreal is clearly losing all trades right!

The Petry case is confounding and that's why it causes a lot of consternation here.

On one side you have the dynamic of supply and demand. There is literally nobody available on the right side of defence at a cheap cost after the Letang signing.

On the other side, no teams have the money to fit him in their salary structure besides 3-4 teams.

At this point you have to go by Hughes word and that is he is NOT retaining any salary in a trade, and he wont pay to move him. That clearly indicates without the return he demands, there is no deal.
We saw with the Islanders rumours that the 13th pick was available, and, indeed, traded to the Habs. Hughes didnt budge by trading Anderson which was reported by Seravalli and Lebrun as a monster ask above a high pick.

Petry wont be traded for any less than what Hughes demands. That is something that ppl should have learned here by now.
The same story happened with Lehkonen. Everyone here said they wouldnt get a 1st round pick in return. Hughes never waivered in his return requests and Lebrun had an entire article on theathletic dedicated to the process from the Sakic and Hughes sides.

Sakic didn't want to move a pick and prospect but it occurred.

Hughes with that whole ordeal and now the courageous selection of Juraj as the whole market was chanting for Wright, that shows that he will not be cornered, whatsoever.

For people not to learn by now that Petry wont be given away is borderline sociopathic and those ppl should be ignored.

He said the exact same thing at the TDL on an ACGM that all my trades blatantly favoured the habs and all trades were undervalued in the end. I pointed it out and he got all pissy, bringing up nonsense like Ristolainen for some reason and another person that he 'humbled'. Cringe at best. The marks of a person with antisocial behavioral issues.

Sure they do, they aren't interested in keeping Strome around and Copp wants 6 mil. So what options do they truly have for 2 or 3 C? They really only have Chytil after that Mckegg and Rooney none of which should play above 4C (McKegg and Rooney). So your options are seriously limited

1. Sign Copp for 6 mil on a 6-8 year deal
2. Sign a FA probably in the same price range as Copp
3. Trade for a player like Dvorak
4. Run one of you prospects and hope for the best

With the Rags being a playoff team they are not going to want to depend on a rookie to carry 2 or 3 center duties. Copp at 6 mil is a huge overpayment (it was the same reason Montreal did not sign Danault to that deal) and does not make sense. Your last option then is really the trade market and since Dvorak had a slow start last year his value is slightly down. Now you could try to trade with someone else but that probably costs more. So you can choose to do what you like but the deal is really not bad from the Rags side.

This is a well thought out post. However I would contend that Montreal fans expecting Dallas to give up a first or top prospect without serious retention is equally sociopathic.

I forgot that Lundkvist is Bobby Orr. A guy at the bottom of the depth chart. Rangers must have won multiple cups with all this depth on defence and their metrics must be incredible. Oh wait..yeah they dont trust Lundkvist at all but he must be hiding that greatness!
