It's not a forever home, but it is a safe place for JD to get back on track, with friend MacK here.

Lehkonen did what he did in MTL
Players go injured and he filled in

Did it in MTL SCF filling in for Tatar then sat, then brought back with Evans out
He played 2nd and 3rd line as a result despite most considering Tatar's line top
Toffoli-Suzuki-Caufield lead the team in minutes and playoff scoring

Lehkonen is the guy who can play anywhere but isnt consistent enough to be a lock like a Landeskog,Rantanen,Mkinnon, ext all proved early on they were.
AL is a great piece they highly value but im not sure he'll be their top line guy its more likely they push Landeskog-Kadri line on top with Mckinnon-Rantanen to 2nd pair to accomodate Lehkonen

Expecting Lehkonen to score 50+ pts which to me a Top line Player in COL has to is just unrealistic
You're putting him in a position to fail straight out the gate

They haven’t played together in like 10 years lol. And I’m sure MacKinnon has only become more intense since they were kids.

I don't think it's a terrible guy to take a flyer on, especially with some retention - 1x$4M for a guy with his playmaking abilities could be a steal if you can get him on the ice regularly. I just think he can't play in Montreal for whatever reasons.

In Denver nobody will know who you are, unless I see them at the Cherry Creek Mall...

I don’t know that anybody is expecting 50+, especially depending on what they do at 2C, but expecting him to be 40+ good forechecker to contribute to special teams on the 2nd line with Landeskog isn’t unreasonable. He scored 38 last year, and averaged .7ppg in the playoffs. COL is now at a spot where they can’t really afford $4M 3rd liners, plus their bottom 6 is already looking really full with Newhook, Compher, LOC, Cogliano, And Meyers all locks for the NHL to start the year. Throw in NAK, and guys like Maltsev and Kaut they need him to step into that role. Next season for COL the regular season only matters to make sure they get into the playoffs and I am sure there is going to be lots of playing with line combinations.
