Description
Here me out, I hate starting peterka in the ahl but he would instantly be first call up and injuries are bound to happen (see the 9 goalies that played for the sabres last year) I think this automatically makes the sabres a better team. Goaltending is the only thing I am unsure on. None of the good UFA's are likely to come or else prefer to much term. I think you start with this trio and if it is going well you look at acquiring a goalie to push you over the line at the deadline

They (Edmonton) apparently don't want picks, but Buffalo is the perfect team to get him. Can give him the top6 time he wants and see how he develops. If he excels, great. Also provides a little protection for Quinn. If it's clear that JP is just a higher-end bottom six guy, Sabers have the cap and timeline to lock him up and strengthen their lineup as their better and younger guys breakthrough. Worst case put a good defensive C in the middle of Asplund and JP and let them get to work.

UPL is going to need one hell of a camp to win the starting job, let alone a spot in the NHL if they sign another UFA goalie. They didnt sign Anderson to sit in the press box, he could be on the beach with his family in December if that was the case. No reason to kill Krebs' career either, just start him in the A if you think that little of him

Fair, I wonder if they attach a bad contract to the deal to allow the oilers to pursue someone in FA gets it done

Yeah this would make sense. Kassian would be the guy I imagine. Edmonton fans seem to think you could move him without attaching assets/taking money back, which I guess is true- there are a bunch of dumb GMs. But I think he has negative value. Way too high of a cap hit for the worst kind of player- physical guy with low compete. If your Buffalo, offer to take him if they give you JP. I personally would buy him out though. Worst case maybe keep him as the extra this year and do the buy-out next summer.

I don't understand the infatuation with Pulju-boy. Seems like he does a lot of chopping but no chips are flying, maybe like Tyler Ennis, and there's no way in hell I'm sending a second rounder (or comparable prospect) to EDM for him.

"I think you start with this trio and if it is going well you look at acquiring a goalie to push you over the line at the deadline"

am I missing something, you're going to roll 3 goalies is how that reads, which makes no sense and then you want to add a 4th?? The way you have it displayed looks like Anderson is not getting that many games as well. Hence my comments

Yeah you roll with these 3 and hope one takes the reigns, they used 9 goalies last year. If you acquire another you send UPL down and keep a trio of anderson comrie and player x. or if upl is taking the reigns you trade anderson to a team who wants to solidify their goalie trio going into a long playoff run.

Very good defensive player who is undervalued by his current team whos contract is likely to be inexpensive. You trade for him banking on him finding his offensive game

The Sabres used 9 goalies because they kept getting hurt, not because they wanted to see what they could do

Exactly so odds are that the 41 year old goalie who got injured last year is going to get hurt again, hence the three goalies

That doesnt explain why youre running 3 goalies when UPL is waiver exempt. This doesnt stop you from trading for a goalie later either. They could even sign a decent AHL goalie to back up UPL as well. Anderson retires if you stick him in the press box for no reason other than to run 3 goalies

*shrugs*

Pulju-boy spent over 50% of his shifts playing on McJesus' right wing last season and came up with 14 goals. In 2020-21 he spent over 60% of his time with McJesus and managed a career high 15 goals (55 games.) If you can't find your offensive game with McJesus then I'm not so sure you can find it at all.

Quick note:

Zemgus Girgensons spent 41% of his time with Tyler Ennis on the left and a combination of Matt Moulson and Chris Stewart on the right in 2014-15 on a team that was designed to finish in last place. He managed a career high 15 goals in 61 games.

Just sayin'.

Yeah I mean not like I gave up 9th overall for him, a 2nd round pick when you already have 3 firsts is a low risk play in my opinion, but hey who knows right. Val Nichushkin went an entire year without scoring and then finished 2nd place in conn smythe voting. You never know but if thats all i had to give up for a 10% chance at that player i would

I dont know where you have read that craig signed up to be the starter? Like yeah sure start UPL in the minors till injuries occur then call him up. Jack campbell, husso, or kuemper arent coming
