Final Draft Scenarios

Description
These are some scenarios I could see the Devils considering:

IF Shane Wright goes 1st:
1) Drafting Slaf @ #2

IF Slafkovsky goes 1st:
1) Draft Wright @ #2
2) Trade back with Columbus for #6 & #12 (Nemec/Jiricek and Kasper/BPA)
3) Trade with Detroit below. Detroit gets their #2 Center and Devils get #8 and a future top 4 Dman. I believe the value is pretty close:

#2 = 12.3
Ty Smith = roughly a mid 2nd round pick
and a 4th

for

#8 = 6.7
Edvinsson = 7.6 (Drafted 6th last year)

I really hope the Devils just take BPA at 2, but if Wright for some reason doesn't go 1st, I could see so many scenarios where teams look to trade up that are in need of finding a Top 6 Center like Wright.

    DET trade is interesting. Will be compelling to see what happens if Wright is still on the board at 2.

    Detroit declines. Edvinsson is untouchable. Can we interest you in William Wallinder or Tyler Bertuzzi?

    I know trading up to 2nd OA comes at a high price, but I can see Yzerman dealing Edvinsson for it. Only way he trades up I think is if Bertuzzi or someone like him is involved not futures especially since Edvinsson is developing fantastic so far and might already be NHL ready.

    Dr. Kekalainen has said he isn't willing to pay that price so I wouldn't count on that being a possibility.

    No from Detroit, Edvinsson is going to be a staple. I’d rather Edvinsson + Nazar/Gauthier/Kasper than Wright + Smith. If he had the same projection as Bedard then we wouldn’t see him disputed or slipping (McKenzie) on boards.

    This Detroit trade has been in my head the last 24 hours.

    I sincerely hope that Montreal just takes Wright so we can get Slaf but if they don't, anything is on the table.

    Edvinsson is worth more then the 2nd overall pick by himself then you want this year's 1st ontop. The trade is out of bounds, wings pass all day

    No Savoie? I'm on the Savoie train I just hope he doesn't go earlier, but looking at a lot of projections we have a decent chance at nabbing him.

    Edvinsson is worth more than a 2nd overall pick? Then how come he got passed up 5 times the year before? I'm not saying he's not a great player, but don't tell me he's worth #2 overall and then some for a guy who hasn't played a single second in the league yet.

    If Edvinsson was in this draft class, I don't think he'd be drafted before Wright, Slafkovsky, or Cooley

    After the season he has last year I'd say he would be. He has #1 potential and his game is unreal. This is a weak draft and last year was a stronger draft. Dallas came out and said they had edvinsson #1 on their draft board and so did wings. So if a few teams had him #1 last year, he could be #1 this year as well. Just depends on who has first, their needs and their take on the player. Slaf might turn out to be jagr or KK, never know but Edvinsson played against men last year in the 3rd best league in the world and dominated

    I’d add him too as a nice high end winger (don’t see him as a center at the NHL)

    Value isn’t a static figure. Additionally, draft classes vary year to year so saying he was drafted at X slot last year means nothing as you don’t factor this in nor do you even consider development. Further, Bob McKenzie stated that multiple teams had him top 2 if not first overall. Teams covet different things every year.

    I like how you built out the scenarios.

    But I only think teams will be willing to trade up to #2 (or at least pay assets to do so) if Slafkovsky is there. Maybe for Nemec.

    Oh interesting. I would think more people would want Wright, but didn't think of it that way.

    Depends on the team. The Jackets are pretty set on good wings, but could definitely use a high end C. So if Montreal takes Slaf, CBJ would be a team with a fit. I just don't think Jarmo would trade 6+12 for Wright.

    CBJ aren't doing that. The value isn't even close. It could be 6&12 for New jersey's 2, 37 and 75. That's pretty even, and NJ has a slight edge still.

    Nah Devils would take out 37 and then it would equal up. So your 2 1sts for our 1st and 3rd. That's the fair value based on Draft Pick Value Chart via TheAthletic.

    #2 = 12.3
    #70 = 0.9
    Total = 13.2

    #6 = 7.6
    #12 = 5.5
    Total = 13.1

    Some players do take longer to develop Datsyuk was skipped over in his first 2 drafts as well and still was only drafted in the 6th round 171 OA.

    Dallas had Edvinsson at the top of their big board.
