I figure at some point OTT has to turn a corner and decide to push for a playoff spot or they are gonna end up like DET, in a perpetual rebuild.

I know that's the narrative but a GM can't force them into a playoff spot. I believe the players have to show it first before you start trading picks away... And 7th last isn't it. Sure make moves, get better players just not unnecessary desperate trades involving valuable assets. All the best teams keep their high picks until the team shows they are playoff worthy during the regular season. Otherwise you end up being Vancouver or Chicago, in one year, out another. Like Detroit?

Umm not sure that's the team you mean lol. They were 20 plus year playoff team then took on a full rebuild 5/6 years ago... Not ever having a top 3 pick. I don't know why people think these things don't take time and they are rarely if ever linear. Even Colorado took like 6/7 years including 1 year with the worst season in the NHL in decades lol. But got MacKinnon at 2, Landeskog at 2, Rantanen at 10, Makar at 4. Landeskog to Makar was a 6 year gap.

If Jirijek is there Ottawa makes the pick. Love Konecny but he’s been terribly inconsistent. His cap hit isn’t bad but that’s not the type of player that should be targeted with 7th oa, even with the late 1st coming back the other way.
