That's fair, but there is no chance Barabonov starts the year on the 4th line. Might as well sign Gregor and carry him as an extra forward, or try to trade his rights then. Don't let assets go for free if you can avoid it . With the cap left over, you're better off keeping MEV and either playing him or scratching him to save yourself a year of extra cap hit from the buyout.
