Panic at the draft

Description
1- Poolparty trade: Anderson being moved... I like him, I like what he brings in term of size and speed and overall leadership. However, we are not contending and he doesn't fit in our window. That's why I would target Poolparty - his prime will correspond with our contending window while providing size and speed.

I believe Allen and a 2nd should be enough, but the trade could be adjusted (a B+ prospect or retained Drouin)

2- Petry will probably be moved during the draft to advance... a lot of teams are looking for RHD help - and only 2 teams will get Klingberg or Letang. BUF makes sense as they are a young team looking for vet RHD help. Petry could be could for Power and Dahlin. The price needs to be sufficient for KH not to feel like he's hurting the habs.

3- Anderson trade: I believe habs need to find some good RHD prospect or player. With the departure of Petry and the uncertainty with Mailloux - our RHD is looking pretty thin with only Barron has a potential upcomer... but I have my doubts.

NYR need to shore up their RW and they are contending now - ergo, Anderson would fit perfectly on that top line RW - instead of paying the big bucks for other RW. Georgiev seems to be on his way out and their RD is strong and signed longterm. They have a surplus at RHD.

They get a top 6 RW that brings a lot of intangible, the 26th ovr, a 2024 2nd round pick and a former first rounder that needs a change of scenery, while MTL gets a good RHD prospect and a young goalie has an insurance policy for Price.

What is not to like!

BUF needs a vet RHD for his young LHD.

an early 2nd pick or late first would probably be the price.

NYR definitely says no.

I would hope Buffalo says no.

Just can't imagine buffalo doing that.
Imo they will either go cheap through UFA. Or be a big spender on a trade for a real solid RHD that playing style matches what power or dahlin need.

I don't see them going In the middle and taking a guy like Petry, unless he was made available for real cheap

Sabres need a good defenseman in his own end. Petry was the worst dman in his own end last year. I dont see that working

How is this cap dumping? I'm not dumping Armia, Byron or Hoffman - Anderson is a legit top 6 RW - something you are lacking in NY.

You have Fox and Trouba for the next 6 years at RD - and your RW is weak. Use your surplus to get better - plus you are getting a first round pick and a second.

I get that you got far this offseason, but get a grip.

-Edmonton running out a Jake Allen/Stuart Skinner tandem (for the sake of argument we'll assume Mike Smith is gone) doesn't really scream out as a path to get back where they got this year. It's basically a 1B/1B tandem to me, and not sure if giving them Allen and their 2nd rounder back is enough to get Puljujarvi out of Edmonton.

-Anderson is too rich for the Rangers' blood, IMO - they've only got $10.2M in cap space this summer, with holes at 2C, RW1/2, & backup goalie with Kakko also needing a new deal. I honestly can't see them taking more than half that cap space to fix only one of those holes while also opening up a new one at RD3 moving Schneider out. They've got to be more judicious with their money than spending on a middle-6 guy getting top pair money.

-I can only see the Sabres doing this if the price is much, much lower. Ryan McDonagh is 2 years younger than Petry, and has a very similar cap hit ($6.75M vs. $6.25M) and all Tampa got for him was Philippe Myers and an AHL depth guy. Why would Montreal get a high 2nd rounder from a team that isn't trying to actively contend and can easily get that "veteran presence" from somewhere else much cheaper?

Those are good comments, thank you for your feedback,

- I think Allen is an upgrade for EDM in terms of goaltending that comes at a VERY cheap AAV. So in terms of ration quality/caphit he fits right in for EDM. We could add to the EDM trade, but I don't see the habs giving more assets. Can a prospect be thrown it... probably.

- I feel like NYR will cut in the "fat" (aka luxury third and fourth liner) before saying no in massively upgrading their RW. Kakko has not demonstrated enough to get that big raise yet. For 2C we can throw in Dvorak in exchange for Kratzov and a third. 5.5M is market value for a guy like Anderson. He brings a lot to the table than just points. I disagree with labelling him a middle 6 guy.

- I am not dying on the Petry to BUF hill - Many teams are looking for a RHD - top pair RHD are more rare than LHD like Mcdo... and the cap situation is not the same. Also Mcdo had a NTC and wanted to stay in Tampa, whereas Petry as actively asked for a trade for family reasons - I don't see him using his NMC. Although, I agree that a vet presence could be acquired for cheap on the FA market and that Petry doesn't fit in their window.

- I expect a team like Dallas or Pens to grab Petry if they lose their own top pair RHD.
