Description
Only deal I'm not sure about is the Boston deal, looking at it feels a little light on value for them but on the other hand they really need pieces that can definitely turn into something and I think 5 pieces that have that opportunity is valued to them.

This is probably a trade I’d consider. We’d still get a good player at 25 for the prospect pool

*If* you knew you could keep Nylander for more than the 2 years here, this would be a massive steal for the Sens.

Love the OTT trade, makes sense for both sides but may need to eat some cap on Nylander, 1.5-2 mil. Selling Muzzin only makes sense if you replace him with Carlo and while I don't think Boston is selling, that package is impossible to say no to. An A prospect, a B prospect, a B- prospect, a 1st, and a 2nd? Overpay honestly.

Yes I do agree with that, I took that into account with the fact that I don't believe Nylander would stay.

I don't think the leafs would entertain cap retention plus there is really no need with what I had stated in the trade, as far as the Carlo trade I couldn't tell, he's exactly the type of RD we need and he is at a great caphit with term so I thought it would take an overpay.

The Garland trade makes no sense for Vancouver at all short term or long term. Sandin has no spot as Rathbone will play 3 LD and the rest just clears cap for Toronto. Kerfoot to balance out cap I can see, but a prospect we need (Knies or a young RD) and a higher pick would be necessary.

Right now, due to the Fiala signing, we have about $1 million to spend at LD. Some other adjustment(s) would have to be made to absorb Muzzin's massive cap hit. If you start by retaining $2.25 million (40%), we might be able to make something work.

I don't think garland is a player that the leafs would move knies for, but I understand your reasoning.

That's a good point, I forgot to look at LAs cap situation I don't think the leafs would do the retention unfortunately, they should but if it came down to it I just don't see Dubas doing it, is there a contract LA is looking to move?

Only Cal Petersen's $5 million, which solves your goalie problem (hopefully), but the last time I suggested that, Leafs extremists excoriated the idea of paying that for "a backup goalie."

I wouldn't call him a backup but he definitely didn't have the best year last year, I could see a possibility of a muzzin Peterson deal but Im not sure what it looks like, both teams take a gamble but leafs gamble is riskier due to the extra year, maybe a pick swap of some sort?

I'm not sure that the risk that Petersen turns out to be awful is worse than the risk that Muzzin's injury woes recur. Plus, Toronto needs to improve their goaltending and needs to get rid of at least part of Muzzin's burdensome cap hit, whereas Los Angeles has many alternatives to taking on Muzzin's contract, so the incentive is all on one side.

The leafs don't have to get rid of muzzin though, he's still an effective top 4 Dman and I personally think his injury problems are overblown by a fair margin, plus the alternative would be a package with Sandin or niemela to acquire a cheaper goalie with less risk. I'm not saying there isn't incentive to this deal but I think it's on both sides LA Is dropping a year off their books right when the cap is supposed to explode

yeah I'd be all over this. no way of confirming that Nylander would stick around, but I'd want the Sens to at least have some sense of "Nylander seems like he could be willing". if that's present though, I'd definitely do this
