Description

I typically try to do conservative teams, but thought I'd have some fun for this. This is kind of a dream off season. Your top 2 lines are pure offense, the 3rd line is shut-down and aggressive (something the Rangers desperately were missing in the post season), and the 4th line provides the energy and physicality.

The SEA trade is probably a bit of a stretch, but I think it can still work. SEA is pretty clearly a few years away, so I don't think holding 50% on Gourde will kill them. The 3 young players they get should more than make up for it (provided they thrive with bigger minutes on SEA).

Next Year Rangers have 13 contracts signed with 19.2mil in projected space, with big pieces Lafreniere (~4mil), Chtyil (~4mil), and Miller (~3mil) needing contracts. After, they have 8.2mil for 5-7 bottom contracts, which is certainly possible. I will assume Othman would take the place of Blais, and hopefully Robertson would take the place of Soucy.

NYR get the 3rd line they want, as well as some center depth to help Chytil transition to a 2C. If Chytil struggles, Gourde proved this past year he can play in the top 6 pretty comfortably. NYR also get a 3rd pairing D in place of Braun/Nemeth/whatever.

SEA - who clearly need a lot of work - gets 3 NHL ready, young, cost controlled players as well as a 1st round pick, while clearing some cap room to try to grab a center from free agency. Unfortunately, NYR can't part with any centers to help them. I suppose UFA rights or either Strome or Copp could be part of the deal, if necessary. Potentially add another 2nd round pick if necessary as well.

The very obvious difference here being that JT Miller is only signed for one more year, while this gets a solid middle 6 player under contract for 3 additional years

Gourde @1/2 x3 is a perfect target as opposed to rentals. Future cap and depth is key. Soucy is not needed but a big cheap bottom D H Fleury would help.

Gourde isn't really a middle 6 guy on a contender, he's a bottom 6 guy and isn't necessarily a threat like Miller. Apples to oranges but you're giving up a ton of assets for a bottom pair D and bottom 6 F.
