this is just an attempt. constructive criticism appreciated. will gladly explain every move
I think the devils make a lot of major off season moves.
starting with the cat. blackhawks are listening to offers. it’s going to be an expensive price to pay for him, but it’s gonna be worth it for NJ. he’s the impact player they need to take the next step
Kuokannen is still young with a lot of potential. and that’s why i move him. i don’t think he reaches his full peak here in NJ, so i believe they send him somewhere that he could get a chance to be a 40-50 point guy.
The Puljujärvi is a bit of a toss up. i don’t know if NJ is one of the teams that will be seeking him, but he’s one scenery change away from breaking out into a superstar. Tatar didn’t really fit well with the devils this year, and i believe they’re opening to move him. EDM needs LW help, and tatar feels like a good fit for them with his 5 on 5 goal scoring ability
Lastly for trades, Blackwood. don’t see him playing another game for the devils. not happy with management and how they treated him, and they don’t like his vaccine status. buffalo may not be the place, but UPL doesn’t feel like the guy for me. and Levi still has a little bit to go until he’s NHL ready. Blackwood could be a guy they use as a 1a/1b with Anderson until Levi’s time comes.
Bratt is getting max term no doubt. 7.7 rage feels about right for his production last year. this one’s pretty simple
keep Subban. had an okay year, and the team loves him.
bridge Zacha again unfortunately. until he breaks out which could finally be this year with the roster i assume they could build here.
Vesey was one of the devils best PK players this year and was overall the perfect bottom 6 player for then. i’d keep him for a cheap price
Hinostroza is another solid bottom 6 player they should bring in. veteran presence, and not too expensive.
Lastly, the big prize in FA, Ville Husso. a guy who finally found his game this year, broke out, and took the number one goalie rights over Binnington. I don’t see see him staying with the blues. He’s going to be sought after by many teams like the oilers, leafs, and devils themselves. It very well could be a bidding game, so i wouldn’t doubt he ends up getting overpaid up to 6 million. but realistically, that’s a deal i see him getting.
Kuokkanen is going to be on the 3rd or fourth line in Winnipeg, and they already have guys like Gustafsson, Toninato, and Barron who can fill his spot without giving up any assets.
I can't see the Sabres paying a 2nd plus for blackwood. Those aren't great numbers to be looking for that kind of return.
it’s definitely a risk considering his injuries and downhill slump. he’s got the talent and potential, but just needs a competent defense and to stay healthy

yeah it didn’t have to be WPG it can be anywhere. they were the first team that came to mind that felt like a potential fit
it’s definitely an expensive price. next years draft is loaded so giving up that 2023 first hurts no matter where the devils finish. holtz is going to be a monster too, but if NJ wants to pry that impact player out of CHI, it’ll need to be a highly touted prospect they want in return

Not worth the price. They should just go for Gaudreau if they want a big fish

The way I see it if the Devils are going to trade for DeBrincat it's at the draft. And I am willing to bet that if they do trade for him it's because they have knowledge about Johnny Hockey's plan.(Stays in Calgary or he's going elsewhere. You have to make moves with information that you have and I find it hard to believe that these Gms and agents don't talk until July 1st or in this case July 13th

The problem I have with a DeBrincat trade is that it would be exactly the opposite of Fitzgeralds comments on the type of forward he wants to add.
And all the talk about NJD trading the #2 pick all stem from one comment he made about “doing anything that helps the team improve” when asked if he’d be willing to trade their 1st rounder (and that was before the lottery).
I think a trade for Kubalik is more likely than a DeBrincat trade.
Gaudreau + Wright or Gaudreau + Slafkovsky are both a lot more appealing to me than just DeBrincat.
Of course it does. Because you're not giving up anything. But we could strike out on Gaudreau and Slafkovsky could not live up to the hype or Wright could be a dud. I'm for Gaudreau and the pick but there is no certainty that they will work out for us. And how long will Johnny play to his potential if he does sign here? 3-4 years?. Rangers are already having buyers remorse on Panarin.
