Kampf is a key part to the Leafs bottom 6. Plays the same type of role as Coleman, Paul, etc but just with less offence. A steal for 1.5 mil, they aren’t moving him for a 26 year old project goaltender and a fringe NHLer

It's a symbiotic relationship.

On the one end, yes, the Ducks are supplied with warm bodies to meet the Cap floor.

But on the other end, the Rangers are looking to clear Cap to fulfill other more pressing needs.

While the 2 work in tandem, the Ducks aren't going to just clear money for the Rangers out of the kindness of their heart. They are going to ask for a premium Pick/Prospect (well within their right) to accelerate their rebuild in order to facilitate the deal. Since the Rangers are the ones in a window of competition, they would probably be willing to do so.

Add in the fact that they are giving up a solid BUG in Stolarz, and it makes this return even more lopsided.

Honestly I think the Habs reject. Drouin could definitely fetch at least a second on his own if he’s 50 % retained in a trade at the deadline. Lundkvist is probably worth a mid to high second in my mind. Drouin (50 % retained) for him is and Nemeth is probably a better frame for a deal for both sides
