Description
Since he's as good as gone by all accounts (which is dumb IMO)

I thought I'd rattle off some possible JP packages that would not make me gauge my eyes out immediately.

What trades would you think would be good hockey deal for both sides?

Let me know in comments.

Lolz no. Edmonton will be forced to take much lower. Every team will know they can offer sheet him at 2nd round compensation range and Edmonton will not be able to match it.

And the overvaluing PJ train just keeps going. Seriously, EDM can’t match for a second, and teams aren’t very likely to offer up a second outside of an offer sheet. Take a 3rd or a 4th and leave it at that.

As for the Canes trade, that is an easy trade for the Canes to refuse. That first round pick is the most valuable asset coming from EDM, but Canes don’t need futures right now if we trade Necas. We need a top 6 goal scoring winger, which PJ is not.

You guys are getting picks or prospects for him. Almost no leverage and the situation has been bungled.

If the 1st is for Zub and the late 2nd is for Puljujarvi then that leaves Ottawa paying a 5th for Kassian? You need to pay to dump that contract. Either move the 2nd down a couple rounds or take the 5th out and add another pick on Edmonton's side.

worst case scenario he gets QO'd if there is nothing of substance offered and if they go into an arb case it'll be favorable for oilers looking at comparables. JP hasn't asked for a trade, just oiler MSM pushing for a deal. I can see JP most likely getting a return of an rfa that has one foot out the door already just like him (and something extra if its say a strome or kakko or necas). For as unlucky of a season as he has had offensively he was still hitting an 82 game pace of 18G 28A 46pts while being elite defensively. PLus several teams will definitely be bidding for him which should drive up price tag as well.

He should stay and unless there is a legit hockey trade to be made for him he's gonna stay put if Holland isn't a moron this offseason.

That’s all possible but it was widely reported the other day that he asked for a trade again and oilers have soured on him. Based on the way they’ve handled it they’ve devalued him even if he still has upside. Canes surely won’t put Necas in a deal for Pulj. Most I can see them giving is a 2nd rounder - otherwise they’re better suited going after legitimate goal scoring wingers in UFA since that’s what the team actually needs. Pulj would be a cheap Nino replacement if we don’t re-sign him and would slot in on third line with Staal and Fast with more of a shutdown role - not worth giving Necas or anything valuable up for.

Fair. But important to note, All oiler insiders outside of that clown Marc Spector has said he has NOT requested a trade. Just that if a trade were to happen, there would be no objections by either camp if it had to come to such a situation were JP had no defined role. The necas deal was more on the hopeful side. The Strome deal I feel is the one that is most realistic in terms of objective and pricetag imo.

I just can't see carolina trading necas for JP and futures when they're trying to win now. It just doesn't make sense for Carolina especially because JP will play 3rd line in CAR bc of his 200ft game and necas can slot in at 2C or 2RW, I just don't see incentive for carolina
