Avs and Sens fans talk to me

Description
For the record: I love Samuel Girard. I think the bum rep he’s gotten from some Avs fans over the last year is unfair and unwarranted, and I’m not proposing this out of a hatred for the guy. The reasoning for this mock trade proposal is based on the elevation of Bowen Byram. Byram was nothing short of amazing after taking on an increased role after Girard’s injury, plus this trade could help the Avs relieve some salary to bring back a marquee UFA (Val/Naz), I chose Val here. Brown is a solid option as a middle six winger who can provide a similar game to the likes of Nichushkin & Lehkonen, and Brannstrom, a young LHD, could really use a fresh start elsewhere, and why not with a team who pumps out quality defensemen the way the Avs do? Brannstrom would also be a great fit in the way Bednar encourages the defensemen to play, as he can move the puck very well and jump into the play when the opportunity is right.

As for Sens fans, you would be getting a solid top 4 Defenseman in Girard, (which is something Dorion is looking for), who provides solid puck moving ability, and can make smart decisions with the puck whenever it's on his stick. He had a down year due to playing with a back issue, but after letting it heal for a month before the playoffs, he had a great playoff run until it was ended by a broken sternum on a questionable hit from Ivan Barbashev. He's signed for 5 more seasons at a $5 million cap hit, and would be a solid boost to the Sens left side. He can also play the right side if necessary.

Not sure where the narrative of Avs fans turning on Girard came from. Almost all the Girard trades on here are from other fanbases

I think you could probably scrap Mikhevev and trade compher, pay lehky a little less, maybe Val a little less and bring back both. Granted, if you did that, keeping Mack would be tough and that’s obviously most important.

I'm an Avs fan and spend a decent amount of time on Twitter. Seems like after the rough series he had against Vegas last year that he got crucified for every mistake he made this season. It got to a point where I was seeing Girard trade rumors every gameday. If you're on Instagram, peep the account AvsInsider and you'll find a recent post that shows some fans thoughts of him

As much as I would love to bring back Nichushkin for less, he's going to be a very hot commodity if he hits the open market. Avs are going to have to pay up a little bit or else they'll be outbidded. Same deal with Manson who I doubt returns, but I would love for him to. The Defensemen market is brutal this offseason, especially on the right side, so some team will do something irresponsible to land him. As for the Compher part While I don't disagree, but I feel like the organization might disagree with you there. Mikheyev is just a winger I really like lol

I don’t mind the value on the trade but the fit is questionable for Ottawa given that Chabot and Sanderson will be patrolling the left side next year. That’s without mentioning the fact that Ottawa already passed on Girard once with the Duchene trade. Obviously things can change but if he was a priority then, he would’ve been a senator already.

I feel like this trade on day one is a better deal for the Sens than it is the Avs. At most I would add some retention onto Brown since he only has 1 year left. Shouldn't hurt the Sens at all considering it's highly likely they won't be competitive next season either. The big payout for the Avs would be Brannstrom finding his game at the NHL level, and with the Avs recent history with defenseman I think they could get the most out of him

Girard can play the right side if they choose to put him over there instead, but I get where you're coming from. As for the initial trade, the Sens had just went to the conference finals and were looking to upgrade over Turris with that deal. Defense wasn't a problem in the Sens eyes at that time.

Ottawa's goal this season is to be fighting for a wildcard spot so yes they want to be competitive. Will our Gm stop procrastinating that I cannot answer. If the Sens don't take a step this season PD is fired and players will be pissed so it will be a big L. Expecting big moves from ottawa this offseason if not Dorion fired

I just don't trust the goaltending. Not sure if Forsberg can replicate the season he just had personally. If they are competitive I think it'll be because Gustavsson takes a huge step

I agree with you goaltending is sketchy for OTT but not a problem right now. the problem is that stutzle is playing with 3rd line players. Stutzle if surrounded by talent can be very lethal. He is fast has a nice shot and sets up nice plays if OTT can get a decent player with a great shot he will be more then a point per game.

if OTT did not have Sanderson, they might accept this, but they have no need for LD they would pass on this.
