I think he would want Niemela + Knies/Robertson + 2022 1st + another 1st. It seems that he wants a young player + 3 first (one of the first being a high one)

Kyle Dubas would want to offer probably Robertson+two first at most

or better yet, sign strome as a ufa when he isnt qualified, sign him to a much better contract and then keep the 1st and buy out mrazek

Isn't the deadline to qualify a player just a day before FA opens? If it is then trading for Strome's right might not be a bad idea.

They could still trade Mrazek+reasonable sweetener for Strome just to accelerate the process of signing him

RFA qualification date is the 11th and free agency opens up on the 13th. They could trade something to get in early, but it wouldnt be a 1st because his rights are worth like a 7th and the difference between that and adding mrazek isnt a 1st and a decent prospect

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the OP just put a 1st because it's is a late one and the rumor is Chi wants Mrazek but they want a 2nd+B prospect. He is probably assuming Strome rights are also a third or so. Even according to that analysis it is an overpay.

If Dubas is going with Blackwood, I could see him keep Mrazek or just buy him out if the ask to move him is ridiculous.

He's serviceable but probably not useful to Buffalo (unless they can't find a better mentor for Power). I think a defensively sound team like STL or DAL can pick him up as a depth option. Possibly CAR depending on what happens with Bear, DeAngelo and Gardiner.
